Salt lick?

I actually went looking for these things one day because I was seriously craving salt and remembered those big red salt licks I used to see put out for deer and cows....

I use nothing BUT Himalayan salt; it's dearer than conventional salt (and you have to be careful if it's cheap; it's either mixed with conventional salt, or it's dyed) but the flavour is more intense, and a little goes a long way....
Yup. I have found this on Amazon, in the UK. Cost me £8.50/3kg. Brilliant way to go. Much cheaper. Thank you for posting this, great info!0 -
Definitely look on Amazon. I found half a dozen options on Prime, which means free shipping.0

I canceled Prime... LOL0 -
Deat god my life would collapse with out prime! *clutches pearls and fans self*3

The salt I buy is not available as a Prime item, it says.... But that's not a problem in my book....0

Me thinks I would end up looking like the old tootsie pop commercial....how many licks does it take to get to the center? one, two, three, <crunch>...three licks to get to the center.3

Wow, that would be one heck of a sodium bomb on beat 4!0

Yeah, it was part of my cut-all-possible-expenses move when hubby got laid off a few weeks ago.... don't worry, I'll probably get it back. I used Subscribe and Save for diapers and wipes and other consumables that cost a ton in the store. Once I figured out my monthly need, I saved a ton of money that way (2-3 kids at a time in diapers and/or training pants for 2+ years gets really expensive really fast).1 -

Can you link to the one you get? I'm curious what's good, as I haven't actually bought any of these things.0 -
Sure, no problem...

However:
Don't forget I'm in the UK.... So products on our (UK) website differ to those in the USA. I have found this in occasionally looking up products in the USA, linked to by fellow forum members (elsewhere) only to find that if I research them on Amazon UK, they're not available...0 -
Crud. It's not available on the US site. Thanks anyway!0

LOL That is just a horse salt lick! Diana, you can find those anywhere. Amazon will certainly carry a US equivalent, or any Tractor Supply or equivalent store.
Those necklace ones are interesting. Not sure I'd want to lick something that's been hanging out exposed to all the germs in the world though. Or tucked under my shirt against MY germs! But I like the concept because I'm not always drinking something that I want to add salt to.0 -

Just wash it off.1 -

Look at the informative link (last of the 3) in the first post, it explains all about the prep, and is quite sound. Salt is highly antiseptic anyway. It's extremely unlikely you'd get anything from it....!2 -
Or you can make sole water. I did that with the chunk of himalayan salt that I had in January, and still have half of it left. https://wellnessmama.com/12158/make-sole/

The amount of Himalayan salt I use during the day, I don't need this, but I'm sure there are many who would benefit....1

I second this. I have a teaspoon of sole water in a glass of filtered water every morning.0 -
I've not been real attentive to sodium intake the last few weeks since being very busy with work and the last 2 days have had the need (yes need, which is my point) to dump some salt into my hand, lick it off and wash it down with a swig of water. Fortunately both times I have been at home. I almost instantly feel better. Perhaps I should look into one of the necklace salt licks to tuck under my shirt. Hanging around my neck would just be a recycling of some sodium from my salty body with some a little fresher.1
