Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

TODAY'S TOPIC: Keeping Fitness Fresh
Do you feel the need to adjust your fitness routines.
If so, why?
How do you determine when you will change
or what your new routine will look like?

I don't know about you, but if I get bored with something, I AM DONE!!
Then, finding the motivation to do something else is difficult.
This is true especially with exercise.
I make it a point to add, change, adjust my fitness routines every 3-4 weeks.
I have been playing around a lot with interval training lately.
LOVE IT! Love the fact that adding an interval to your workout can
increase your metabolism for up to 24 hours afterwards.
I have been experimenting with different styles of intervals
I even purchased an app that allows me to create my own timers.
I really love it
Just added a little running in between sets this week
Fantastic

I am constantly trying new things.
I thought I hated fitness for years. Turns out, I just hate treadmills and ellipticals. It wasn't until I found Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) that I realized fitness could be fun instead of another chore that I have to do.
Sadly my MMA team disbanded, but since then I've joined a Roller Derby team and Pole Dancing classes. I also previously challenged myself to complete a marathon and I did it (never again though...)
If there's a new gym or a new class in town I am always one of the first people to try it out. You never know if it'll click or not until you give it a shot.
Since I'm always trying new things my fitness changes fairly naturally as I adjust my schedule accordingly. I make my schedule work around whatever I'm most into at the time. Since I have to be out of the house a lot for roller derby practice, I signed up for the BeachBody streaming service so I can do at home workouts the other days of the week. For how much I use it, it will end up being less than $1 per workout which is a huge bargain in my book for the quality.3 -
Always on the lookout for new things to try. My problem isn't that I get bored, it's sort of the opposite. I'll keep doing the same routines if I don't make an effort to change it.
My greatest find of the year, maybe ever, is Pickleball. It's loads of fun and a great workout. Good way to meet new people too.2 -
The changing of the seasons helps to change the variety of my fitness activities. In the winter, it is running, snowshoeing, and sometimes hiking depending on trail conditions. In the spring, bike riding starts up and hiking picks up too. In the summer, I really get serious about the bike riding, and I continue to hike. Fall is when I get more serious about running (I hate to run in the heat and humidity outside) and fit in outdoor biking as long as the weather permits.
During the week, I'm at the fitness center in the morning doing the stuff that helps build up my body to be able to get outside for long periods of time (weight training, swimming, stretching).2 -

This year I increased my lap swimming from 8 to 16 (1/2 mile) to push myself. I wanted tosee if I could do it. I now enjoy doing the 35-40 minutes of laps before or after my 50 minute aqua aerobics lesson.
Aqua aerobics got a bit boring with going to same instructor Tues & Thurs at 8 AM, so I added a 11:00 AM classes with with two different instructors on M-W-F. Wed has music so that makes it different too.
My big change was signing up for an introductory Tai Chi class! My second lesson is tomorrow. There are eight classes so I will see how that goes.I knew someone who has been taking lessons and it sounded interesting,so I'm stepping out of my comfort zone.
How do you determine when you will change
or what your new routine will look like?
Boredom
Whatever sounds interesting. I want to dabble in weight lifting next.1 -

Ok...wait wait wait. I AM an aqua instructor. LOVE teaching it
Do you mean Wednesday is the only class that HAS music?
I couldn't teach without it. Seriously! LOL
It gets me and everyone else moving.0 -

There's several instructors, the only ones that play music are Brenda & Michelle. Sub Ali just began using music. Pauline is 92 yo and Judy is 69 yo, They will not be playing music LoL.
I enjoy the classes with or without music.0 -

I bet bored doing "aerobic stuff" inside so I mostly just do it outside and combine it with what "I have to do". . Rode to Dr office by creative route in the hills today. Did gym weights and rode there earlier.
I don't need a lot of change with what I do . Not really a gym rat but meet up there for weights.1 -
I don't have a fitness routine. Most of my activity comes through field work or hiking for pleasure. Years ago, I did go to a couple gyms for weight lifting and toning. Absolutely, I did get bored with the same ol' routine. In fact, now that I think of it, it's probably one of the reasons it was relatively easy to quit my membership and not look back.
I like doing fitness workouts that aren't called that. I think what I do can qualify but doesn't always. The one thing that I really do enjoy about winter when I have / make time for it is snowshoeing. I used to ride my bike with the intention of getting some fitness that way, but it's been a long time--no excuses other than laziness and preferring to do photography in my free time. Years ago, I also started taking karate lessons and I really enjoyed that. It ended up being quite a workout and I have considered it again.
Clearly, fitness doesn't have to have routines. I appreciate the examples you all have cited. Definitely an area where I could bump up my game (so to speak) for good benefit!0 -

For her 90th birthday I contacted local paper about her, she paints, plays bridge and is a Tax preparer too! Google Pauline Higgins Daily Press, Newport News VA. I'm sure you can find her write up on line.
