Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.
Monday - Jimb376mfp (Jim) & 88olds (George)
Tuesday - Podkey (Biker Bob)
Wednesday - GadgetgirlIL (Regina)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - TimDumez (Tim)
Today's topic: Have Certain Food Tastes Changed or has Your Taste in Foods Changed?
Way before changing my Lifestyle I used to say "The ONLY food I didn't like was asparagus!" That may explain how I got up to 376#! Now days I buy, eat and ENJOY asparagus!
What changed, me or the asparagus?
Do you have any foods you used to avoid but now love? Has LTL radically changed old eating habits as far as types of food, taste for certain foods, are there foods you no longer want, need or just feel "Meh I can do without that in my life." ?

We all know that Kids Don't eat their vegetables! But as we grow up our tastes change. My diet of choice age 25-45 included lots of hamburger, pork, ground beef in many disguises and lots of bread.
Now I eat primarily chicken (breasts and eggs) and turkey (patties or sausages) and some fish. I don't crave a Quarter Pounder and have no desire for one. I used to crave Pizza, I will have an occasional slice if our group goes to lunch at Pizza joint, but portion it to a couple slices not half a pie.
I think being on WW over four years straight (this time) my taste in foods has turned the corner! Funny how that happened after a lifetime of NOT MTBC!
My taste in foods has definitely changed for the better. Part is based on knowledge of what I was eating in Frozen dinners! Part is trying new foods or eating the same old foods prepared in new ways.

Well, just a couple.
Oatmeal. I used to like to go out for breakfast. Now I'd rather be home with my oatmeal. Traveling? McDs & Starbucks have pretty good oatmeal. I can go out for lunch and order eggs.
Pizza. I think we had some thin crust veggie Pizza Hut just a month or two ago. I never made a decision to stop eating pizza, which I haven't done completely, it's just I don't get around to it much.0 -
My tastes haven't changed, at all. I hated lima beans as a kid and still do. I liked almost everything else ... and still do. LTL has led my to change portions, or frequencies of dining on certain foods, but I still like what I like.0

I've always been an open/adventurous eater and I've never had issues eating my veggies so I haven't necessarily added more food into my repertoire. My biggest change is that I pay a lot more attention to how foods make me feel. Fried food and greasy food make me feel like garbage and it's just not worth it. It's been years since I purposely ordered French fries and I sincerely don't miss them.2

Do you have any foods you used to enjoy but now love?: No
Has LTL radically changed old eating habits as far as types of food, taste for certain foods, are there foods you no longer want, need or just feel "Meh I can do without that in my life."?:
Yes it has in SOME types of food, but not because of taste, simply because they are too expensive, point-wise/calorie-wise. I still like most of the foods that I liked before LTL, but must be much wiser in the amount which I now eat them. Cutting out food groups, or even specific foods would not work for me. I would feel deprived and quit the program. I still eat potato chips, but only 1 ounce rather than a 10 ounce bag. I still eat ice cream, but only 3/4 cup instead of 1/2 gallon like before. I still butter cooked vegetables, but only use 3/4 TBSP of butter for @4 cups of vegetables rather than 2-3 TBSP. This way I still get all of the foods I like and don't feel deprived. YMMV!!!1 -
Three things I didn't think I liked but now do:
Sweet potatos
Asparagus
Brussel Sprouts

My food tastes are pretty much the same. I have what I want but in moderation and not as often.1

I was always a picky eater growing up and still am. What I have noticed, which is not associated with LTL, is that I really like spicy foods now. That is something which started to occur over the past 10-15 years.
I've also found as I've gotten older that some desserts taste too sweet now, a concept that completely baffles my DH. I also find that I don't have as much tolerance for fried foods as they often leave me with an upset stomach.

Before WW I pretty much ate anything but a raw green bell pepper. I really didn't like green bell peppers but now I'm not sure what I can recall but yes there are items that don't taste as good as they did prior WW. What exactly they are I'm not sure I can name them at this very moment. I do know though there are items that don't taste the same. Given thinking time I probably can come up with a couple or three.0

I have never been a picky eater. But I never ate asparagus growing up. I will now eat it occasionally -- it's still not a favorite.
If you ever read that I've eaten brussels sprouts, you'll know that my identity has been stolen! I've tried them every way possible so don't even bother posting recipes that you're "sure I'll like". I won't. Oddly enough I like cabbage though -- both cooked and raw.
I never really liked eggplant and now I find that I really do like it.0 -
I still hate brussel sprouts, lima beans, kidney beans and artichoke anything. I think the biggest change I have noticed is sometimes non lean type meats will taste very greasy to me, or I will feel a bit queasy if I eat too much fatty food.0
-
I love Brussels sprouts!! I didn't hate them before, but all I knew were frozen Brussels sprouts cooked with butter, salt and pepper. NOW we broil them split into halves, toss them with balsamic vinegar, some pepper and salt, and they're awesome! A new Thai place stir fries them with sesame oil, fish sauce and garlic, and they're AMAZING!
There's other foods I have come to love too. I think my willingness is what changed.0 -
I was and am an omnivore.. I eat just about anything... with the exception of raw mushrooms (will eat them cooked any which way but raw makes me nauseous). Give me all the meats, all the vegetables.
That hasn't changed.. but my tolerance for eating until full has.
I was taking a maintenance weekend calories wise this weekend, and actually ate until full for the first time in a few months... I forgot how uncomfortable the bloating was about 20 minutes later when my body caught up to the volume of food I ate, and I realized I had actually overeaten.
I don't want to feel that way anymore... ever.0 -
My tastes and variety have improved a ĺot since a child. I ate many things but not tomatoes . Like them now especially garden fresh in a BLT. No big changes on WW. Love spicy food, steaks, worldclass gelato in moderation. Lots of chicken.1

Just briefly, there is now such a thing as 'too sweet', and a lot of things fall into this category. And greasy food is just gross. Can't figure out what I ever saw in a mc Donald's french fry, tho I do still enjoy (in small amounts) my son's fish, fried in new oil.1

Having been one who would eat just about anything, I don't think that I've gained or lost taste for any food or food group in particular (including asparagus and Brussels sprouts). What I have noticed is that for the most part, cravings and obsessions for many of the things that used to obsess me have subsided greatly.
Back in the day, almost any baked good would surely have me attached to the other end of it! Chinese food, BBQ, beer, beer, pizza, submarine sandwiches, chocolate, etc. were often the same. For the most part now, I still enjoy these foods but the drive to just keep eating because they're there isn't there. I don't covet these foods like I once did.
I think the process of committing to following my plan 'today' (a one-day-at-a-time perspective) allows me to continue to make LTL a priority. The benefits I've gained outweigh my old foodlust most of the time. Therefore my formerly favorite / common foods are still good, but for the most part, they're not temptation enough to make me switch priorities.
This is a place I never expected to be but I don't pretend I'll "always" be here and will "never" go back. That's where the one-day-at-a-time serves me well. I don't have to worry about forever as long as I know where I'm standing today (on any given day).1 -
I can't think of anything I used to avoid that I now love. There were some things I hadn't tried, but now love (like Greek yogurt, asparagus, swiss chard).
I haven't lost my taste for anything, in the sense that they are all still appealing to me. What's changed is that taste/texture isn't my only priority when choosing food now.
