Protein Shake Mixer?

Hey! About once a week I have a protein shake, usually on a day where I really don't feel like eating but know I need to get something in there. I like using unsweetened vanilla almond milk, however, at the minimal amount I use, I only get one serving out of it before it goes bad. And I haven't seen it in smaller containers. I may end up just splurging on the carbs from whole milk, because I allow myself 50 g a day, and if it's once a week on a day I'm not eating much else, it won't really hinder me. Anybody have any other suggestions, though, as to the liquid I can use? Maybe half milk and half HWC? I don't know. I'm probably just SOL and need to suck up the carbs once a week.

If it makes a difference, my protein powder is vanilla and I usually mix in some peanut butter, too (which also ups the carbs).

Doesn't milk go bad faster than almond milk? You can also make your own, just soak almonds in water over night, blend with water and a little vanilla, strain or the pulp and your done.

Freeze it. I can't use up an entire container of nut milk before it goes bad and I usually only need small amounts of nut milk as ingredients in conjunction with my cooking and baking efforts. I immediately freeze what I don't use. I use cheap, plastic candy molds in the shape of "coins" (think mini peanut butter cup size or thereabouts) and freeze the extra nut milk in batches. Keeps just about forever that way and one container of nut milk also lasts me FOREVER that way (heh). I just make sure to pull out the amount I need the day before I need it. It does separate a little bit once defrosted but that's easily rectified by sticking it the microwave for 10-15 seconds and stirring it once out of the microwave.

AuntStephie, I can buy milk in smaller containers, so it wouldn't have a chance to go bad.

Ladipoet, I read that freezing alters the flavor. Do you find that isn't so?

Do you keep hwc or half n half around? Mix either of those with water depending on how many calories you want.

I usually have HWC. Wouldn't have thought to mix it with water. Thank you!

On a rare occasion I have one, I mix with water and a little half n half because that's what I have on hand. Water alone works too but I like just a touch of creaminess. It really makes it more milk like.

they are shelf stable so they wouldn't be in the regular milk section, most likely by the juice boxes and such. we have them here at wegmans, but I don't know what other stores carry them.

I mix my protein powder with water, I got used to it after a while, if you blend in the blender it'll make it more creamy too with just water.

I have frozen almond milk in ice cube trays. I put plastic wrap over it so it doesn't absorb any odd flavors. They melt pretty quickly when just set in a cup on the counter, or you can run hot water over the cup while you seal it with your hand to speed up melting.

I've always gone on the theory that if it doesn't actually fight back, I try freezing it. There are all sorts of things in my freezer (guac, pesto, sandwich meat, cheese, home made dog treats, tomato sauce, herbs) that not everyone thinks of as freezer-friendly. I'll definitely try almond milk since I've cut back on protein smoothies and the almond milk is hanging around longer.
