I almost hate telling my dieting story in Facebook. Cause as soon as I do I get concern. Usually asking them to google ketosis vs ketoacidosis ends that. Tonight I have this sent to me. What's your reply?

"Are you guys monitoring your ketones with the ketosis strips? It is really important because if your carbs are too low and you measure high on the ketones you can cause kidney damage..."

I'd simply ask for a source

    Yeah. I did that earlier.

    Hopefully she looks into it.

    She sent this.

"I should have referred to them as ketone strips. Im just concerned with your daughter at 20g carbs. If you take it that low for too long it can put a strain on your kidneys if your keytones are too high. Nothing wrong with keeping the carbs low but you need to keep an eye on it."

I also told her she was absolutely wrong about ketosis. Hope that wasn't too harsh. I just can't stand the misinformation going out to everyone in the diet group. I don't mind differences of ways or doing things. But I really hate misinformation or improperly defining terms.

I don't know which piece of folk "wisdom" is the worst:

*Don't cross your eyes, they'll get stuck.
*Don't chew gum while you're exercising or you'll suffocate.
*Mastůrbation causes blindness - and acne.
*Ketones are bad for your kidneys.

.."Don't sit on a radiator, you'll get piles"
"Don't crack your knuckles, you'll get arthritis"
Don't swallow an apple core you'll grow the seeds in your stomach"
Don't unscrew your belly-button or your *kitten* will fall off."

    (The last one's true, actually.)

I'm not putting much stock into the advice of someone telling me about the ills of "keytones".

I fall in the "You think I am skeptical? I trust you have proof" camp. If there is some legitimate study that is published and not funded by the Fructose Advocacy Group, I am willing to go look at it.

Ah, yes... the ketosis / ketoacidosis confusion. I've run into the same 'concern and warnings' too.
I ask to hear what information the person has to offer (for fun mostly), usually it is one sided about ketoacidosis. I then ask about ketosis-- comes up short on info. I just tell them to read up on both topics and then we will continue this conversation. :#

You can? (I say sarcastically) What is the source? I had a similar comment to me and people who do not understand this WOE get Ketosis mixed up with Ketoacidisis (sp?) which is serious but you would have a underlying condition.
