    Here's an admission of geekdom: Back when we canoe-camped every vacation (i.e. days from cars & stores), I built an actual database for this, so I could run queries for different sorts of trips, continuously improve the plan from year to year, etc. Ah, youth! ;)

    Lots of pre-planning and fit testing. All gear, food and shelter had to fit through 8 inch hatches into low space holds front and back. I really enjoyed this trip in my new kayak, but I'll use the canoe next time. Pack/unpack and portageing was tough.
