Is a Consistent Meal Time Really That Important?

I was just wondering what the effects are of changing your meal times. I know that it is recommended that we have a consistent meal time everyday, but I was considering altering my meal times cycling through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Maybe doing a 7:00 meal one day, noon meal the next, and 6:00 pm the next, followed by a no eating day and then back to 7:00 am and repeating the cycle. Is this amount of change too much? The proposed schedule is pictured below. What are your thoughts?

I wish I could help answer you. My meal times are between 10-2, though I eat everything in one sitting because I like to close my window fast. I ate kind of like you're suggesting when I vacationed in London and it didn't hurt me at all, though. Aside from that, there have been occasions like going out for dinner that I will just hold off and save my appetite for later. When I went with a friend to Buffalo Wild Wings at 9:30 at night a couple weeks back, but there was no way I could hold off and be happy, so I had a yogurt and peanut butter snack around three.

You can really personalize your OMAD. If you think it would help, I don't think there's any rule saying you can't experiment a bit :)

that schedule looks a little scattered but if you can pull it off I don't see anything wrong with it

I personally like a consistent OMAD time at the end of the day, this pattern is consistent with our hunter gatherers ancestors when they would have the largest calorie load of a cooked meal at the end of the day, it takes all the mental energy off from food since I know that as long as the sun is up is not meal time yet

I keep to one hour in the boundaries of 6-8:30 pm. For me, it was critical to lose as much anxiety associated with eating as possible so I could keep it a pleasurable experience. Otherwise it felt like a science experiment (variables of cause and effect) and not a time of communion with my family at the end of the day.

I am not sold yet on this schedule, but I was just looking at different options. This schedule keeps me in the fasted state for longer periods each day which I would think would allow me to burn off more fat. Today is day 42 for me and so far I have only lost 8 pounds. I feel like I should have lost more so I am trying to find a schedule that will work for me long term.

I too eat everything in one sitting and am done for the day with my meal usually being consumed within 30 minutes. I also do modify my eating time depending on what I have going on as you mentioned.

I find that eating at night (6:00pm) does not allow me to digest enough before going to bed so I wanted to look at options that would allow for an earlier eating time so that I am not still full at bedtime. The day I did eat my meal at noon was great. I was not hungry at the end of the day and I was not still full either and I had a 1.2 pound loss the next morning. I am not sure how eating at 7:00 am for the day would go though. I have another schedule that I drafted that just has the 12:00 and 6:00 meals. I would have to see how I do with an early morning meal before I completely rule it out.

Oh, Tracey, I can't remember which day last week, it was my breakfast bowl with sausage and potatoes. Anyway, I ate it around 8am in the morning and I was fine to eat at my regular time the next day. Don't know if that helps or not, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Also, remember, you have consistently lost around at least a pound a week on average. You're excellent at making charts, sweet lady, maybe make one that shows your weekly losses? I think you're doing awesome and not giving yourself enough credit!!

My weekly losses are already on my charts that are posted. The weekly loss is on the pinkish row.

Looking at it again, I had a couple of weeks of big losses but they only total out to be 8 pounds in 42 days. I am thankful for the 8 pounds don't get me wrong, I just thought I would have loss more. I am going to stick with it and they will come.

Joe, what are your thoughts on my discussion question?

Argh, forgot you already had charts. Lol. Guess the mind clarity hasn't been full affected by OMAD yet! Lol

And, that's the spirit, the losses will come. I can't wait to be at the weight you started at, and I fully expect you to get after me when my losses slow to a crawl if I get upset about them. :)

My highest weight when I started my weight loss was 211 pounds. I got down to 174 pounds by doing the HCG diet followed by doing Keto. I opted for OMAD to finish my journey because my cholesterol was up at my last doctor visit and I wanted to dial down the fats a bit and see if it makes a difference when I get my labs redone next month. I think OMAD is more sustainable as well.

Don't buy into the keto stuff about all that fat not affecting blood panels. It very well can, although there are some who do not get bad blood panels from it (a sizable percentage, actually). But in reality, a whole lot of us are just not going to do well on it, nutrition-wise. But going even a percentage of plant-based will always help while keeping fats normal.

Try it for a while and see, it's the only way you will find out...I did different things throughout my weight loss and am still doing different things in my maintenance...Good luck and I'll be following your journey :)

Thanks Brenda! I am going to try it. Today will be my normal dinner meal, tomorrow a no eating day and then Monday will be my first morning meal. I think it will work for me.
