I'm confused, I'm on 800 calories a day, I usually eat more because I walk and count steps, 10,000 steps =500 cal eat back half. Today I went for a run, 6 miles in 60 minutes mfp says 945 calories, surely this can't be right ?

Depending on your weight it could be. Usually a rough average is a person about 150 lb burns about 100 calories per mile running. If you weigh less, it's less; if you weigh more, it's more, quite a bit more as you increase in weight.0

Seems about right then. The running numbers tend to be pretty accurate, IMO. The Runners' World formula is .57 x weight x miles.1
