Always sit down while eating?

I'm reading a diet book which advises always sit down while eating.
The theory is that you are generally not mindful of what you are eating when standing. Examples are samples at Costco, grabbing a handful of nuts out of the pantry and eating while walking down the hall, a piece of candy from a co-workers desk and so on.
I don't do those things. I generally sit down to eat. But then I realized that when I get together with our camping group, we have shared appetizers for happy hour. I graze at the appetizer table.
We're going camping with the group over the 4th. I've been planning on how to stay on plan with potlucks and happy hours. I will try to make sure I put food on a little plate and sit down. Of course this will also help me count what I'm eating.
What about you? Do you always eat sitting down? If not, what do you eat standing up?

Nope not me. I am ever mindful and portion foods but don't always sit. When I make my 1/2 sandwich for lunch I normally eat it standing and multi-tasking. I eat dinner sitting and watching Jeopardy
I do think it helps with many folks to focus. I eat the same either way. What I don't do is sit with a bag of chips.1 -
Oh true some gatherings and affairs only have stand up tables or napkin in hand. Once a year I visit my fellow dinosaur hunting paleo museum buddies and am served worldclass appetizers while mingling before dinner. I pick and choose but enjoy some. I don't have a lot of these occasions. I try to have a few "best ever" tastes that are unusual.0

I don't snack in the kitchen or eat over the sink, or any of those 'bachelor(ette)' moves. So I guess the only time I wouldn't sit down to eat would be a reception with appetizers. My strategy would be to have a beverage in hand while I scope out the options. Then, instead of snacking one-by-one (straight from serving tray to mouth), I'd take a plate and make my choices so I could get a view of all my calories/points at once. Eat. Then go back to holding a beverage, which makes it difficult to refill the plate.0

Something I do, just did it a minute ago in fact, is I'll make a snack ( cut up apple) and start for the table but I'll start eating on the way. So usually my snack is 25%+ gone before I start thinking I'm having a snack.

I usually sit but not always. I actually liked the idea of sitting at a table like I did growing up, but that's morphed into sitting in 'my chair' in the living room most of the time. Working mostly from home, I've noticed I'm more likely to grab food for lunch and stand at the island in the kitchen more than I do for other meals. These days it's because my weight is doing a little upward creep (which I've got to nip in the bud). I'd rather assemble and eat the ingredients of a filling sandwich, for example than actually use bread to make it.
For me, I don't think sitting or standing makes too much difference. The difference is what I'm knashing on...0 -
We sit at the table for dinner, breakfast, lunch, and 99% of snacks at our respective computers. Once in a while, for a stat-in date night, we'll have some snack or. hors d'oeuvres at the table.0

Always seated when eating unless it a networking or party type atmosphere with finger foods and these I'm subject to getting in trouble.0

I usually eat sitting down. But your question made me realize that the exceptions are NEVER healthy. It's always chips, crackers or nuts while cooking. Or like you, the appetizers at a gathering. And I can't help but think that sitting down and eating off a plate would make a huge difference in how much I eat and what I choose to eat. Thanks for the timely preholiday post!0
