Being in ketosis and losing weight are two independant things. Ketosis is when your body is using fat for its primary source of energy. Losing weight happens when your caloric intake is lower than your caloric expenditure.
It's possible to be in ketosis but not losing any weight. It's possible to be losing weight without ketosis. Plenty of people lose weight with low-carb but not ketosis.
I believe ketosis has other benefits, but it's by no means necessary for weight loss.3 -
You can gain weight in ketosis.
Ketosis is just not providing enough dietary carbohydrate so that your body must make its own. Your body starts to primarily use fat for fuel.
If you supply more dietary fat than your body needs, you will gain body fat.1 -
Thanks guys, i will keep to LCHF and wacth my calories intakes which i worked out to be no more then 1500 with 5% carbs 35% protine 60% fat, and see how i will get on with that.3

A calorie deficit causes weight loss not ketosis. I maintained during my year of ketosis and have maintained during my last few months of low carb. Eating maintenance calories.
I lost all of my excess weight a few years ago via a calories deficit. Lost a bunch of body fat too. Not keto and not very low carb. Calorie deficit for weight/fat loss. Macro allocation for health and ease of adherence to calories.
If you supply more calories than your body needs you will gain body fat. I didn't get fat by eating excess fat. I got fat from eating excess calories. Generally speaking the US population has become obese during the last 30 years while eating lower fat. Too many calories.1 -
A calorie deficit causes weight loss not ketosis. /quote]
I think I worded this a little backwards because a calorie deficit could cause ketosis. Perhaps I should have written: A calorie deficit, not ketosis, causes weight loss. Or a calorie deficit causes weight loss. Ketosis alone, does not cause weight.1
