Went in to have my calcium level checked (other issue) while I was there was told it was time for my lipid panel. Got the results and of course the doctor did NOT do the particle test. so. His is what I have.
316. Total
89. Triglycerides
55. HDL
18. VLDL
243. LDL
I have lost 39.8 lbs (since February) and I'm still losing. Staying under my 20 total carbs per day. Feeling great and doing fine. Know the doctor is going to call or message me today and tell me AGAIN that I need statins *eyeroll*.
My thinking is things look fine? Thought?
Thanks

"Weight loss, however, releases fatty acids into the bloodstream and can cause a spike in LDL cholesterol levels, among other blood changes. A spike in blood cholesterol due to weight loss is usually only temporary. While medication can be helpful for lowering chronically high blood cholesterol, it is usually not effective for high cholesterol linked to weight loss."

Jeds Mom I hope this link to my post will work and help. I was facing some of the same and will add my numbers in here too to compare with yours.

OOPS finish later friends are here.1 -
Sorry my numbers were:
319. Total
112. Triglycerides
83. HDL
22.4. VLDL
211. LDL
Not sure if this matters but for comparison. I had lost 80 pounds by 2016 when this test was taken because I had gained 10 of the 90 I originally lost. My bad. I am 68 Female.1 -
I am 53 female. Our numbers are fairly similar. Congratulations on the 90 lb loss!!! Way to go!!! I am looking to lose about another 40 ish lbs. how long ago was your panel listed done? Have you seen improvements since then?1
-
The lipid test was done May 31st so no other testing since. I have not even seen the doc since. I will see him Early September for my yearly.
I lost the solid 80 pounds by August 2016 then dropped another 10 when my hubby died. I saw doc late August 2016 But I gained it back. When I went to the doc in May he was miffed at me for gaining the 10 back so I lost it again.
There has been HUGE changes in my blood work over the years from 2014 when I started back LCHF I have had four years or tests because it is only 3 years. I do not have time right now so just copying from my list. Sorry it is a bit to wade through. But it is good to see the improvement over the years as my weight went down and I actually became mostly meatavor or zero carb . Of course that is impossible eating cheese and eggs but close. The dates of the tests are at the top of the list and results listed in order of dates. That first test I was 230 pounds. So scary.

@Jedsmom, here's a short discussion of why you may have elevated LDLs when you're in weight-loss mode.

@JedsMom63, I don't believe one can confidently draw much in the way of conclusions on the basis of your lipid panel results.
It would be great to have good information - both for now and for comparison down the road. So... I would urge you to heed @aquawave's advice and get a CAC scan and an advanced lipoprotein profile, then reevaluate. Possible?1 -
RalfLott- Will have to inquire about the CAC If insurance doesn't pay it prob won't happen right now. I have seen that video. Was wondering if anyone else was were I'm at. Thank you!!
MissMaggieElizabeth- I started out at 222.2. I look forward to seeing our results after our weight stabilizes. I'm thinking it will be great!!! Thank you for sharing b3 -
Remember, also, that standard calculations are almost completely invalidated if your trigs are below 100. You have to use an alternate formula. Since this is very rare, labs don't use the alternate variant. But the rest of this info is good, too.0

Hmm. After price-checking around, I got my CAC for just $99 (insurance covered the radiologist's fee).... Just sayin'!0 -
Is the CAC the same as the Calcium Score? If so, all y'all need to come visit me. My hospital system does it, out of pocket, no referral needed, no insurance, for $35.3

Yes, same beast.
That's a deal! A lot cheaper than a lifetime of statin co-pays.2 -
Where do you live? That would be great!!0

Private pay was $100 including report in Paris Tennessee. If ordered by doctor cost is $249. I guess they use this to find new patients. Nashville had $50 specials but the drive is two hours. Since arterial calcium levels can be lowered it seems it is a good number to know in my view.1

This is an hour long video which I have shared before, but I really think it is a must watch. When I found it recently, it was great to see someone who articulate clearly all my research had found and even referenced several of the same studies I had found in PubMed. I have since heard an interview with him on the podcast Stem Talk.
Dr Diamond does a great job of explaining how pharma companies have worded the finding of studies to exaggerate "benefits" while wording the side effect odds in a different way to minimize the effect. He also uses the scientific studies to debunk the lipid hypothesis and shows, especially as we get older, that higher cholesterol and higher LDL cholesterol is actually associated with lower mortality. The studies I have seen (at least one he references as well) only showed benefit of higher cholesterol up to about 360 or 380.

Excellent video. Thanks for reposting. I don't always catch a video or link the first time it is posted so I would encourage folks to repost good info like this fairly often for those of us who miss it the first time.2

$35 - wow! $125 in L.A.1 -
This is in Norman, Oklahoma. I asked three times to be sure. No insurance, no referral, no doctor order, no local address required. Call and schedule. Even Saturday appointments available.
I'm going to go do this as a birthday gift to myself... I will report my results so we can see if it is actually as comprehensive as the more expensive versions!
Not necessarily the best place to vacation, but we're about 2 hours from Tulsa, 20-45 minutes from Oklahoma City (depending on which part), and about the same to Lawton... SO, if you need a destination to save funds, Norman Regional Hospital has website that includes certain free tests/education, and other things...but this is the best one I've found...2
