So...I have Hashimotos hypothyroidism for 20 years and treat with daily Levoxyl supplement.

I had a bit of weight gain before diagnosis and managed to keep 65 Pounds off over the last five years after proper dosing and MFP.

It's that last 15-20 Pounds I continually yo yo with. Ugh.....My joints feel it as I am tall and a runner and that extra 15 lbs adds a lot of stress.

Here is my exercise plan:

Training for 1/2 marathon...run 3x per week. At 14 miles/week week working up to 20/week
Yoga 1x per week for that good stretch
Xfit I also dabble with Xfit for strength training/lifting 2x per week and yoga 1x per week

I have had some success with Carb Cycling..2 days lean plan with 100 Carbs being the low carb 2 day cycle followed by 185 being the high carb. But sometimes my running plans make me error on the higher carb side to avoid injury.

It's just that last 15 pounds. I see everyone else loosing 5-9 lbs over the course of a month and I log in .4 lbs loss. A loss is a loss..I am not complaining...but with that exercise?

Anyway...I really want to know if there are any physically active or non-active people who are trying this supplement

ashwagandha

I see side effects are could effect thryroid treatment...so I want to be careful. I get blood tested every 3-6 months.

Let me know if anyone else has tried this supplement...This weight maintenance/loss thing is a real challenge and I am really tired of yo-yo ing that last 15-20 lbs. I am already through menopause so that may be making my life difficult to loose too...But was really hoping for 1-2 lb weight loss with all the healthy diet lifestyle changes I have made.

Thanks for your input! I am pretty tough skinned so just be honest.

I use the supplement daily but I am not sure it's having any effect. I've been using it throughout my treatment for hypothyroidism, so I can't say whether there's a positive or negative effect. My osteopath approves, though. I have about 20 pounds to lose, and have had that for the past 3 years. I only just started back to trying to lose the weight after giving up for so long. I can say I have not had any side effects from using the supplement. It's mixed in with another one in a daily capsule I take called "Thyroid Supplement" by One Body.

It's considered an "adaptogen." There are several having this classification lately. Research is mixed. Here's a link to WebMD. https://webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-953-ASHWAGANDHA.aspx?activeIngredientId=953&activeIngredientName=ASHWAGANDHA

    Rhodiola is another one: https://webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-883-RHODIOLA.aspx?activeIngredientId=883&activeIngredientName=RHODIOLA

Not enough out there for me to try them yet.

I do eat one Brazil Nut a day for the selenium, though.

I’ve been on Ashwagandha now for about 2 weeks. I started it due to adrenal fatigue and to improve my mild anxiety and fatigue. I also started l-Theanine at the same time to curb waking up in the middle of the night with my mind racing. Overall I’ve felt much better and my “edginess” is much improved. I may be due to the good nights sleep or the Ashwagandha. Not sure. It hasn’t impacted my weight, but I am mentally calmer. Also post menopause. Good luck on losing your last 15 pounds!
