I pretty much stink at cooking -- requires focus or I drop, burn, or break things. Hubby cooks but we do not always coordinate due to our work hours.

I'm better at baking than cooking... but lousy at meal planning... Knowing it intellectually doesn't help. lol

Used to love to bake. Mom seemed to have done a lot of baking when we were kids and I am the oldest so I helped out. She did not have much cash or time for that matter, but she taught me basics and by middle school I was baking for the family. By high school I was cooking meals for the family.
Today I am good with planning and shopping but not interested in the follow through.

Mainly cookies and bread. When I get dinner invites, I delve into desserts. My favs are apple oatmeal crumble and my healthy banana bread.

So you do like to cook! :) Have you always cooked? I found that kneading yeast bread (and pizza dough) fulfilled me somehow. Then the waiting for it to rise, punching it down and kneading again and such. Smelling it cook. . . . Some kind of primal thing was happening.

Apple oatmeal crumble, OMG. That sounds great. And so does the banana bread. There was a time when I made banana bread but right now the oatmeal crumble sounds like the better choice if you were offering and I was eating . I suppose that you are o.k. with keeping cookies and bread around.

My mom stays very thin partly by putting all baked goods in the freezer. She even sort of has a freezer system that works -- kitchen freezer and then a garage freezer. Dad jokes about it but he's used to her of course.

Most of the time, I have my son around to feed the baked goods to rather than eating it all myself. When the kids were younger, having baked goods around was always appreciated. It's amazing how fast kids can make cookies disappear... and my bread often disappeared just as quickly!

Agreed with the primal thing about baking bread. Not sure if it's the yeast or the kneading but it is so calming...

Now that we're all tacitly adults, I don't bake as often as I used to in the past. I haven't set bread for weeks!

I haven't baked bread for years but it was a part of life for a long time.
Even in college with limited facilities we made beer bread -- because it was three or four ingredients.
