Just wanted to crow a little among people who would understand. I still remember vividly the first time a couple years back when I was able to bench press 225 for a single shaky rep. I laughed then about "wouldn't it be really something to be able to do five sets of five at this weight!"
Today I did just that: 5x5x225. Last week I tried max reps in a single set and eked out 10.
I turned 40 last month, and have given up pursuing any more 1rm attempts. But it's extremely gratifying to see my numbers continuing to improve. Who knows? If I ever get to the point where the 1rm calculators think I could actually get 315, maybe I'll make the attempt. (Calculators say I'm at 300 now, but I'm pretty sure I can't put up that much just yet.)
