Finally a bit of progress. I've been logging food and getting some varied cardio every day, so I'm "back in the saddle" after all the family fun. But, tonight I'm going out with friends, and there's always the restaurant food and cocktails. I promise I'll be moderate. My trainer had her baby Monday . . 7 lbs 8 oz baby boy, but there was a problem with him getting started breathing on his own. They had to life flight him to another hospital in the city with a better NICU. He's doing better now and breathing on his own with some oxygen, and they were going to try to get him to eat. She's really upset that she's still at another hospital, and has hardly even seen him other than her hubby sending her photos. (She had a c-section delivery, so has to stay in the hospital for a few days). The poor girl has had a lot of troubles lately, and this is the latest. Prayers and happy thoughts for her and her baby boy would be appreciated.
Sarah, your Sunday sounded delightful. And, you might be getting your walking buddy back soon.
What's wrong with your hubby's legs? Is this new? I know you can't do any kind of jogging or jumping because of your eyes, but I was thinking about you Monday when I did intervals for 20 minutes. There's got to be a low impact way to do intervals. I like (well, actually hate) them because they are over with quickly, and they always work. The next day the scale is lower every time! Maybe set your treadmill on a good incline, walk as fast as is safe uphill for 30 seconds, and then step off to the side rails (holding on while you do so you don't fall) and rest for 1 minute. Then back on for 30 seconds. Watch your heart rate on you Fitbit app on your smart phone or watch. (smart phone is easier) Get your heart rate up close to your max, which would be 155 bpm (220 minus your age).
Well, I'm off to post on Facebook too. Have a great day, and rest of your week.

Well, steady as she goes. I have bounced from 141 to 143 and back again all week. I am dealing with some major work stresses now, which has being complicated by software problems that are keeping me from being able to do some tasks and making others take three times longer than normal. You would think that anxiety would burn calories, but I think it actually does the opposite.
Sheesh, thanks for asking about hubby. We have no idea what is going on with his legs. He has pain and fatigue. One night he could hardly walk at all, but the next morning things seemed better. He has an appointment to have this checked next Tuesday. He's having a rough time lately overall. If it's not his legs, it's his neck, or he's having trouble keeping his blood sugar levels steady. I keep telling him that since he's two years young than me, he's supposed to be the healthy one!
Congratulations on that loss. I think we both have realized how important it is to track food. Now if I can just get myself to both log food AND move, I may join you on the downward trail. I am still having problems getting out of the house in the early in the evening, and I get only a few minutes break at time during the day. I need to just get up from my desk and go, but lately, I've taken over dinner, which hubby was doing until he started having these new health issues, and by the time I cook, we eat, and I clear the kitchen, I'm done. I'm getting maybe half hour of activity in before bed. Got to stop that!
I do hope all goes well with your trainer's baby boy and that they both get to go home soon. I know you're very fond of her, so she must be a special young woman.0 -
Hi Ladies! I came on here during a brief moment of silence at my work just to check in. I have decided to start calorie counting and tracking again, as clearly something isn't working for me. I know that my intake isn't awesome, but I've been working out what feels like lots and nothing is happening, so it's time for a serious change. So.. my starting weight is going to be 154lbs as of this morning. Summer time is the worst for me because of the alcohol, bbq's, sitting around tanning, etc. But that's it.. I need to do something, so I start my calorie counting journey tomorrow. It'll be hard to get back into it, but it's gotta be done. Wish me luck!
I'm going to go back and read some posts as soon as I get a few extra minutes.0 -
Sarah - I wish anxiety burned calories! But you're right.. stress does apparently do weird things with cortisol levels and actually hinders weight loss. I have started to try short meditation videos on YouTube and have found that they seem to help a bit with my stress levels. Sounds silly but I'm willing to try whatever works. I'm bad for creating my own stress, as I tend of over think things and make things worse.
Sheesh - I'm trying to get "back in the saddle" too! Happy thoughts for your friend and her baby!0 -
Well, this is crazy. I thought I posted something during lunch, but it's not here! Kelly, I said that I'm glad to have you back here on the board and logging food in MFP. My weight is also creeping up and I'm glad to have others here with the same goal (working on both intake and activity).
I, too, have a harder time in summer because I enjoy my pool time, which takes up time and isn't that active, and we also enjoy summer cookouts and all those entail. It is a bit harder during the warmer months. I'm also dealing with less time to get to the mall and many days when it's too hot and humid to walk outside. And we've had a very wet summer. It seems to rain four days a week!
The time factor for me is being affected by Hubby's health. In fact, that's why I'm back on this board. I sneaked back to whine a bit! His neck is hurting him a lot today, so after work, I need to get to the grocery store and then come back and cook. When I could get up from my desk and go immediately out to walk, I did much better. I really miss those days when I dashed out to meet my walking buddy and he got dinner ready for when I returned. When I have too long a break between work and activity, it's harder to get motivated for the activity.
I hate to complain because I know he's doing the best he can, but living with someone who is just not able to do much begins to get to me, and I find it harder to be sympathetic when he talks about how he's feeling because it seems never ending. And I yet I remember from last summer how pain can just take over and how much you need to just articulate it sometimes.
And I also said that I think the YouTube videos are a great idea. I think I mentioned once before that I found the hold music that is played sometimes when I'm waiting for a conference call to begin is extremely calming. It's mostly drums. I've tried to find something similar, but haven't yet found any music has that same effect. A lot of drum music includes Native American sounds that seem to break that calming of my mind.
Well, I hope there are not too many typos in this. I need to post and run. I still have a few things to get done before I can quit for the day.0 -
Glad to be back! It's Day 2 of tracking my food again and while it's taking some getting used to, I already notice what a difference it makes in my food choices. If it's something that I don't want to track, then I don't eat it. It's that simple. Or if I want it, I'll look up how many calories it is first and make the decision.
That would be tough with your husband's pain Sarah. Don't forget about yourself though too. We often take care of others and end up neglecting our own health. Maybe it'll just take a bit of a routine change in order to get things done. I hope things get better for him and he's able to manage his pain or have it just go away!0 -
Logging food does help me keep better on track with intake than I possibly could otherwise. It's frustrating sometimes though. We went out to dinner with friends last night to a place that is not a chain of any type, so I just had to guess at how to log. But at least doing my best to log makes me very much aware of what that one extra cookie and glass of milk can do.
Hope we all have a good week ahead.0 -
I know what you mean Sarah! That's what my life is like when I'm at work. Because I work in a camp, I don't have any idea of how much oil, salt, etc they are putting in their food. It's basically guess work. I usually try to over estimate.
I hope you had a good weekend!0
