IToday was my first endurance ride on HFLC. I started about 4 weeks ago and I was worried about my energy level but at the end of the ride I felt great. We only did a short ride of 16 miles which took about 31/2 hours. I took about 4 capsules of Salt Stick Caps elites (Salt, Calcium, Potasium, Magnesium) before and during the ride. As we walked away from our last vet check when everyone is relaxed and rehashing the Ride all of a sudden I felt sick. I really felt like I would throw up. The feeling lasted about 5 minutes and then for about an hour the upper half of my stomach was sore but the nausea passed quickly. Any ideas what brought this on. My next ride is in 2 weeks and it is 30 miles. I would prefer not to repeat this.

Not knowing how much potassium is in each pill, I have heard too much can cause nausea. That is just a guess that maybe you took too much.0

I was wondering about that but each cap has 63 mg and I had six over 3 hrs for a total of 378 mg and a total daily intake of 2000. My nutritionist told me to aim for 3000. I was a little short as on Ride day I have no desire to eat.0

If you didn't eat before the ride, it could be your stomach being grumpy about that and/or about the capsules (like, the capsules themselves, not the contents of them). Hunger tends to come in waves, which would make hunger-induced nausea do similarly.0

Not meaning to state the obvious, but did you make sure to drink plenty of water with each capsule? I know I get nauseated if I take minerals without adequate water.0

I started having issues at rides w dehydration and elites 2 years ago which is why I now pound back water and take elytes only w water. I ate my normal eggs n back bacon 3 hours before the Ride and made myself eat 3 babybel cheese at the half way point although I was soooo not interested in food. Your feedback is very appreciated.0

How big a group, and where do you fall, performance-wise, in the pack? You felt great during the ride, but the downturn afterward could've meant you were pushing past your comfort zone without realizing it. Endorphins and the camraderie, etc., and then the exertion caught up with you in the parking lot.1

We leave in pairs a few minutes apart. I ride with my hubby. We passed one other pair, the rest of the time we were on trail alone. It isn't really a race. You try to come in with yr best time and the horse fit to continue. I didn't feel like I overexerted. I just don know. But thanks for the input.1
