vivofit vs fitbit cals

Okay, so my fitbit died and after getting 5-6 fitbits that died quickly over 2 years, I finally gave up on the company. my products were warrantied so I'd get replacements for free but the last one didn't have a warranty and I said screw it.
The thing is though, I get different calories on the vivofit. example: 8,000 steps was about 300 calories on the fitbit but 8,000 steps with the vivofit is only 160 calories. It's not even a difference in weight or anything. Anyone know why there's such a discrepency?
