Programs for powerlifting competition preparation

I was wondering if anyone had any strong opinions about programs that one can use as a way to prepare for a powerlifting event? I have a friend who's looking at Paul Carter's strong-15 to peak for the meet that we are participating in October.

I'm using this

In the past have run Sheiko 37, then 32. Got squat and DL pb and no bench pb.0 -
just depends where you are in your progress, if you use gear, etc. my opinions are
if you're new: Madcows/Bill Starr 5x5 or 5/3/1
if you've been around but train raw : cube method, sheiko
if you know your stuff and train in gear: westside, cube0 -
Am I understanding this correctly, that you gradually build up to doing your 1RM right before the event? If so, that seems to run counter to everything I've read.I'm using this

I use 5/3/1 in general, but I was wondering about changing it just for the run-up to the event itself. I don't think I'd want to end up doing a 5/3/1 week just before my event, for example. It's my first event, so I don't want to overcomplicate things but I was just curious about what is out there.just depends where you are in your progress, if you use gear, etc. my opinions are

Read again. New 1rm a week before. A week is plenty of rest.0
