Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Monday -- imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday -- bwmalone (Brett)
Wednesday -- minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday -- misterhub (Greg)

Today’s Topic: Do you have things that can knock you off your LTL daily plan, goal or routine and do you mind sharing those? Maybe at least three?

Many of us strive to keep things to a norm or routine and what happens to you may help us to look out for those items to avoid.

I Was traveling yesterday and all week Ft Lauderdale and got in late last night and almost forgot that I had LTL Mondays! Got it on my calendar now.

Here are perhaps three or more things that might knock me off course on any given day, week or time period that seem to effect me.

    1. Unexpected interruptions during the day.
    2. Mood changes that can interfere with my motivation or determination to stay on track.
    3. A food item snack or meal that I haven't had in awhile and Bam! off to the races eating it or doing
it that knocks me off track.
    4. Being on a long trip or road trip such as I just finished. It was a mixture between business and
pleasure and I didn't take time to track. Bad mistake b/c I got back in and gained 3.5 lbs over
    6 days.

    1) Social eating/drinking
    2) All inclusive dive trip
    3) Not enough sleep

I'm feeling a little proud of myself. We went camping with our RV friends. I stayed under my calorie goals even with potluck happy hour and wine. I had a lot of talks with myself. At happy hour I brought strawberries with yogurt dip (yum). The other happy hour was cancelled due to other events.

Things that throw me for a loop:

1 - Lack of sleep. If I don't get a reasonable amount, the next day is often filled to the brim with bad choices.
2 - Changes in schedule. If I end up eating later than usual... then much harder to not overeat.
3 - Trips - I have yet to come back without at least a small gain.. but I think that has been my attitude while on them that drives it. Attempting to do much better this time.

@GoRun2 and @bwmalone Thanks for the lack of sleep I forgot about that one.

Lack of or not getting enough sleep is definitely on my list as well and should have been # 1. In fact it may effect me more than any other single factor. I have severe OSA and when I'm traveling it effects me the worst. My AHI on this latest trip went up as much as 5-8 times more than usual. Mainly because I was not sleeping in my hospital bed which is an adjustable bed. This really help to elevate my head and feet.

    1) Having to give up my workout time because of my job
    2) Too many consecutive nights of bad sleep
    3) Being blindsided by stuff at work

@88olds - "The more I fish the less I weigh" - Love it! My rewrite would be "the more time I spend outdoors the less I weigh"

Injuries: Last week I got four tiny stitches in my finger, and was told NO POOL for ten days. I knew I had to change my routine from water aerobics and swimming to stationary bike and treadmill. Did I do that? Hell NO!

Boredom with same old food. Mostly happens when I see something on TV and then crave it.

Social outings with my two main group of friends usually involves breakfast or lunch. I try to cut back the rest of that day but usually eat a "normal" meal out.

    Three things...hmmm...

    1. I'm a stress eater so I definitely have to watch when schedules, timelines or other things put me under pressure. For the most part, I've pretty much got that one solved by changing my eating choices rather than trying to eliminate the behavior altogether.

    2. Drinking too much alcohol tends to make my decision-making 'fuzzy' and I'm more likely to go off-plan if I do so. It's rare for me to drink to that point anymore. I think it's happened once in three years.

    3. Not so much the eating part, but busy schedules can make me feel cramped for time and that can interfere with my relatively-new walking routine. If possible, I like to do it relatively early in the morning but that's not always the way it turns out. The flip side is I don't like getting locked into a routine and it's important for me to remember the body really doesn't care what time it happens. I know it's good anytime so try to remember that when I don't get to it early.

    1) Lack of sleep, big time!
    2) Eating my emotions, especially loneliness or anxiety
    3) Food envy. When I see other people eat delicious things I want to too

    1) Lack of sleep. It throws my hunger/eating cycle off and makes it more likely I'll make bad choices or not be mindful.

    2) Waiting too long to eat. I think I may have an undiagnosed blood sugar issue. (I plan to look into this.) I'll forget to eat, then I'll have what I think is a blood sugar drop (headache, spaciness) and I'll scarf the nearest food available with no thought of satiety. I eat less overall when I eat on somewhat of a schedule. Not too rigid, though.

    3) Poor planning for social occasions. I'm fine if I save points for special occasions and/or don't try to make a meal out of finger food/appetizers. If I've eaten sensibly beforehand, it's easier to selectively sample party food. Not easy, just easier.
