Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Today’s Topic: Setting and Meeting Goals

There used to be a weekly mini goals thread on GoaD. I used it as another tool to focus on small weekly goals.

Questions to discuss:
Do you set and meet your goals?

Do you write down your goals in private or announce them? (Family, friends, on line?

Did you establish non scale goals once you reached your Goal Weight? (Examples)

As I get near to some weight loss goals I have had for a long time I have a nagging question...then what will I do?

I have met some other non scale goals and Bucket List items and plan to come up with some more.

Right now my focus is reaching some milestones. I have been listing them for myself and on line to keep them in my face.

The goal of losing X pounds in Z weeks can be a recipe for disappointment, since WL is NOT linear. But I joined a MFP challenge to lose 52 pounds in 52 weeks.
It keeps me focused and seems like a realistic goal. I've lost 27# after 32 weeks so it keeps me grounded that Struggle is Real.

Do you set and meet your goals? I set them, don't always fully meet them!

Do you write down your goals in private or announce them? Some goals (weekly) are just written in my private journal. I do set monthly goals in a small online accountability group that I participate in.

Did you establish non scale goals once you reached your Goal Weight? Yes. One of my first goals was to do a 50K trail race on a trail where my father used to lead a hike (~28 miles - longest hike that his club did every year). I accomplished that in 2014 - my dad was with me in spirit that day (he had died in 2005). Then in 2015 I got a do-over of another 50K trail race at a venue where I had a DNF in 2006.

Then I set a goal of doing another 100 mile bike ride. I accomplished that in July of 2015 and have continued to build my cycling mileage back up to where it was back in 2003-2005.

My current goal is a 200K bike ride (brevet) which is a week from tomorrow. I did ride 128+ miles last Sunday but that was a on a much flatter course.

My bucket list goal is to hike all of the segments (1,166+ miles) of the Ice Age Trail before I turn 70. I've logged about 160 miles thus far since 2016.

Another maintainer- I'm in the green zone now. My only goal is to play better, injury free Pickleball.

And yet another maintainer. I have had some non-scale goals over the years. During my 65th year I had a goal of 65 hikes and long bike rides. I achieved that. This year I have a goal of hiking at least once a week, until the winter snows strike.

Do you set and meet your goals? I set them and some I have met and some I have not.

Do you write down your goals in private or announce them? (Family, friends, on line? Basically I have my ultimate weight goal written down here on MFP. I pretty much have to see it every time I check in which is everyday.

Did you establish non scale goals once you reached your Goal Weight? (Examples) I've never set non scale goals that I can think of. I look at them as a victory and relish in the happiness that that they have come about.

I guess you could say at least 3000 miles cycling per year but I think of it as more of a standard than a goal. I am sure if I had 2,999 miles on the last day I would ride another mile. True. I sorta don't want to set myself up with hard and fast unachievable goals but do have standards in the back of my mind. With a 3000 mile standard I in fact rode over 6000 miles each year in 2013 and 2014 partly riding for a cause and lots of fun. With some incidents I rode over 3000 in 2015 and 2016. It's all good.
