Ran my 5K!!!

So I graduated from the C25K program about 2 weeks ago, and I ran in my 5K race (Biggest Loser 5K run/walk) yesterday.
It was VERY hilly, and I was totally not prepared for the pounding that my body would take going up and down those hills. I did most of my 5K training on a track, so it was flat and smooth, which was totally unlike this course.
I really wanted to run the whole thing, but I ended up walking for two very short stretches up the last hill. I think if I had set out at a slower pace, I would have done better and been able to go the whole way - I know I walked way less than a quarter mile.
In any event, I was able to finish it running and at 39:58, which was under 40 minutes, which was one of my main goals. For this course, I was thrilled to be under 40 minutes. My "official" time was 45:58, but you were supposed to subtract 6 minutes from the time because during the end part of the race, you had to ride a ski lift up to finish along a trail. The ski lift time had to get subtracted from the "official" time for the "actual" time, so I did finish it in under 40 minutes.
I finished 8th out of 32 in my age division (Women ages 35-39 - I'm 38). I was pretty darn proud of myself for finishing in the top 10 for my age group. The winner of the race was in my age division too (she was 35 and her "actual" time was around 26 minutes - OMG!).
I am really sore today, particularly my hips. I am sure it was all the pounding on the road going up and down that made me so sore.
I am planning to run again maybe tomorrow, but just an easy 2 miles. I am going to start the 10 K training next week.

Congratulations of your first 5K and meeting your goal. I am getting a little nervous for mine this Saturday.
Isn't it revealing that we can now say things like "I am planning to run again maybe tomorrow, but just an easy 2 miles"?0 -
way to go! It feels so awesome to cross that finish line!0

Awesomeness! Thanks for sharing your story with the group!0

Wow! What an awesome race. Just think about where you would have placed 11 weeks ago...would you have even finished?
Note to self: double-check that ski lifts are not a component of any races going forward0 -
Fantastic, you did so well!0

The ski lift part was interesting. LOL It was nice to rest for a little bit and see the beautiful scenery, BUT my legs were pretty stiff when I got off at the top and running again was kind of difficult.
I'm glad I did it.
No way I would have finished it 11 weeks ago without walking most/all of it.0 -
Well done - your motivation and dedication has paid off. I cant wait till I can say the same. x0

I just found out last night that the earlier results were changed. I actually finished 8 out of 37 in my age group. Not a big difference, but, hey, I did even better than I thought.0

That's a great achievement - something for those still on the programme (me!) to aim for0
