So as I was explaining paleo to a coworker, she asked me if I plan on taking supplements with it since dairy is a no no, etc. So, should I be taking supplements with this lifestyle?

One doesn't need dairy to get their calcium. There is an option to track calcium in the macros. I suggest doing that for a week and see what your numbers are. If you're not getting the recommended daily dose then think about supplementing. I find I am doing fine with almond milk and veggies.

I supplement with fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin D. I also sometimes add powdered greens (Barlean's) to smoothies.

I'm supplementing with fish oil, vitamin D, and a probiotic (per Mark Sisson), but that's it. According to te book "Wheat Belly," if your diet remains alkeline/neutral (alkeline: fruits and veggies; neutral: nuts; acidic: meat and grains), calcium won't leech from your bones and you don't need to replace it with food. That said, once my Whole30 is over I'll be drinking almond milk and adding raw milk cheese back into my diet.

I take Vit D (I live in the PNW), cod liver oil, and kelp (to supplement iodine).

There a lot of foods that naturally contain calcium and if you were to drink almond milk I believe that is fortified with calcium.

And if you were to eat the Primal way then raw milk and cheeses are allowed as well.

Thank you guys! I haven't started eating paleo yet. End of this week is my start. I am trying to do as much research as possible and my coworkers question puzzled me. I drink almond milk and coconut milk right now as it is. Ill look into the three supplement you guys take. I knew about fish oil. I have a dr appt in two weeks and in going to get checked for a vitamin deficiency. So hopefully that will also help clear up any supplement questions also :). Thank you!

I would say Vit D is vey important. I was deficient so the Doc had to prescribe a 50,000 iu pill that I took once per week! My husband is into herbology, so I benefit from the natural alternative to prescribed meds (except Vit D).

The problem with supplements is you are wasting your money if you don't need them, but you don't know if you need them unless you check your bloodwork regularly. I have a doctor that does that, so I know what I need.

You can look at what you're getting and then supplement to the RDA, which is the next best option. Think about the foods you are eating and make the best decision for you.
