Texas and Florida

My family members in Texas are without electricity but dry. They described their part of the neighborhood as being the dry area in the middle of a lake.

Hubby and I are preparing for potential Atlantic storm "Irma" that could intensify and come to Florida next week. Saturday we have to check /sort current supplies.

Thanks. It is the first storm ever to reach hurricane strength so far east and was being called a monster storm in terms of its intensity (but small in terms of the miles across.)

We are watching its path across the Atlantic. If it comes to FL, we would feel its effects close to next weekend -- not sure.

The rains and winds buffet us as the storm advances toward us as a category 3 that is spread out over a huge area. It could take two more days to get here and pass us. We do not know if we could lose electricity and for how long but we are prepared for it.

Another reason I don't want to move to Florida when I retire!

The night before the storm, we turned down the a/c and the refrigerator so we could manage without the power for a short time. The electric power went out for 12 hours. But other neighborhoods were without power so workplaces were closed. Public schools were open as shelters.
