Almost made it a week. Went to bed feeling really nauseous, so that was a bit of a wake-up call. Planning to do better tonight.

Back on the "dental work diet" of soup and soft things. I've had some close calls recently so maybe this is a blessing in disguise- it makes it easier to resist my typical binge foods. If only I could take all the credit, lol!

@mae918 - Every day is a win! You're still here and doing great- I'm sure you'll get that week under your belt in no time :)

I need to work on making better decisions. I'm happy with my binge-battle progress, but I'm still losing and gaining the same 5 lbs because of poor decisions and not balancing out my sodium intake with water.

One of my problems is after 10pm snacking. It is a big problem. The carb addiction always kicks in strong. Lately, I am moderately successful at avoiding the cravings but... why does this happen? I ate a good dinner. I am not technically hungry. Why does my mind tell me (like a junkie - the irrational pull is strong) that I am hungry beginning at 10pm to approx midnight. This has got to stop. I need an exorcist. Is my kitchen haunted with carb ghosts? They call my name....

@valleygirl74 - that actually sounds like insulin resistance. Sometimes when you eat, are you more hungry after you eat than before? Do you feel like a meal is not finished unless you have a small bite (or several bites) or drink of something sweet? Getting hungry for carbs specifically late at night is another huge sign. Excessive fatigue, high blood pressure, swelling (like in the legs, etc.), high cholesterol (total OR trigs, etc.), belly weight, shadowing of skin in any fold area (eyelids, neck, crook of elbow, behind the knees, jowls, belly rolls, under breasts, etc. - looks almost like wearing a light eye shadow in that area), and just a ton of others... If ANY of these jump out at you, you should look into it. My fasting blood glucose numbers are good, as is my A1C, but my fasting insulin is a mess...even medicated...

Another thing to look into can be a candida overgrowth - if you go a few days of no sugar and feel like your body is screaming at you for sugar/starches, it can easily be this - a specific bacteria from your stomach/digestive system.

(HUGS) It can also be related to dopamine...

And all these things are actual chemical reactions in our bodies we cannot forcibly control. Some we can medicate, and we can use a combination of dietary therapies with other tools, but simply willpower alone will not heal these issues...in case you feel powerless and are blaming yourself for not being strong enough.

    So (HUGS)

    Thank you, KnitOrMiss. :)

I very much appreciate the information/support and will follow up on this.

The testing for IR has always come back negative, i.e., in the "good" range in the past. That said, I will mention it to my physician.

I am determined to overcome the poor eating patterns and to form new healthy ones. My life has greatly improved since ditching the carbs (Keto.) It is early in the game but, already, I feel much better - dramatically less pain, better energy.

Being boldface honest about and accountable for the food that I consume is my best tool. It's a big promise to myself. I log everything, even if I don't want to. My days are getting more consistent and healthier.

Anyway, the support that you offer here is wonderful and important. I am grateful to everyone here who has reached out to me.

    Onward and upward!
