What do you like to do besides manage your weight?

Much as I love GOAD (and GOADies) I've often said I don't hang out here because I have other interests. With my slow internet, if I'm going to be on it, I'd rather use it for my real passion which is bird and nature photography. One great thing about that hobby is it takes my mind off food for hours at a time!
If anyone's interested, some of the pictures in the various topic threads here are outstanding!

Hiking the Ice Age trail, bike riding, and sometimes running.
And of course, plotting out my next outdoor adventure which usually helps me get through the insanity of the workweek! We are still too far out from Thanksgiving weekend to get an accurate weather forecast, but I'm planning on heading up to somewhere in Wisconsin for a couple of days to hike or snowshoe depending on conditions.
I'm doing a 100K bike ride tomorrow and have been obsessed with trying to figure out what time I should start to avoid the bulk of the rain that is supposed to pass through.2 -
I love hiking in the Cascades and Olympic Mountains (there seems to be a theme, here). I try to do a good, long hike at least once a week, in the summertime. In the winter, I at least walk whenever and wherever I can. I bought a pair of snowshoes a couple years ago, but have yet to use them - maybe this year.
I have been a woodworker for 30 years. Our house is full of furniture I built myself, as is my DS' home. I recently started doing a lot of turning on my wood lathe and now have a pile of maple, cherry and hazelnut logs I am working my way through.
I sing in my church choir and our family enjoys taking part in lots of church activities.
We live close to our DS and DDIL and we spend as much time as we can with our two wonderful grandchildren.
I spend a lot of time just hanging out with my DW.0 -
I bake, read, listen to music and have returned to learning to play the hammered dulcimer. I garden a bit but have scaled it down due to my back. I walk and swim for health reasons. If my back ever gets healthy again I hope to get back to at least some light hiking or recreational cycling.1

I go to are senior center twice a week and do all sorts of activities. I enjoy walking on the bike path and sometimes ride bike till my back and knee say enough. It is relaxing .1

I'm pretty sedentary. One of my main things is that as Minister of my Secular Franciscan Fraternity here, I seem to be constantly planning. Events, monthly fraternal gatherings, council meetings, etc. I just call it hearding cats.
My other thing is geneaology. TOL is busy trying to trace her people, and I sometimes help. My tree is pretty complete, as my step-mother was a geneologist, and did my tree.
Therefore, for me, sticking to the plan is my way to weight loss.1 -
I guess I'll have to admit that my work is a great deal like a hobby. I have two businesses and one is more fin than the other. When I'm not working I enjoy my civic work which is at least once a week and then I'm active in my church sing in the Choir that takes up one evening then of course Sunday Church for us.
We keep a pontoon boat slipped at lake lanier here inn north Ga and like to get out a and cruise the lake. Its astounds 800 miles of shoreline so we never see it all. Its only about 10 minutes from our house but still as busy as we are we don't get out there as often as we like. We are going out today and check out the colors.
I also like to go out to the gun range with a friend of mind ever now and again and enjoy that as well. I love music but don't get too just sit and listen likeI used to. I have a pair of klipse horns I've had for almost 50 years and I really enjoy them.
Oh yes I really enjoy coming to the GoaD board and seeing what's going on here. This can take some time if you really think about it.1 -
I started taking aqua aerobics classes when I weighed 376# and found that my ankles and knees couldn’t take floor aerobics in the gym.
Now I go to pool 5-7 days a week! I have a group of new friends and found an exercise I like.
I slowly added swimming laps and I can now swim 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. I had never tried to swim a lap in my life! So beginning in my 60s was a real surprise!
I take our dog Sadie to local dog park several days a week. Another social group of friends, it gets me out of the house, social settings with a wide variety of people to discuss anything we want.1 -
I work as a software engineer - that takes up a fair amount of my waking hours, but is pretty flexible overall. Outside of that and WL.
Family time - cooking, watching movies, short hikes, generally hanging out.
Martial arts - As much as my body and schedule will tolerate. I practice typically 4-5 days per week.
Walking - I walk with the dogs pretty much every day.0 -
Fishing
Pickleball
Watching European police shows with subtitles on Netflix.0 -
Another photography bug here. I keep saying that I'm going to create a website to post some of my pictures, but so far I haven't done it. I think I spent so much time developing and maintaining websites while I was still working that I just don't have it in me to do one for ME. LOL
I also do a fair amount of volunteering with a cat rescue site here at the beach. Our island is overrun with feral cats -- most of which were just dumped here when they were kittens. The organization which I volunteer with participates in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) and we have vets in the area who graciously work with us to provide low-cost neutering/spaying to attempt to reduce the cat population here. We spayed/neutered 200+ cats in 2016 alone and are headed to the same number in 2017.3 -
Great stuff folks; thanks for sharing your interests and passions. Sometimes I think we tend to forget that we are much more than people focused on what we eat and what we weigh!0

Hiking, biking (over 3000 miles so far this year even without long rides).
Photography and guitar too. Oh and hunting dinosaurs of course.0 -
Good question!
I have some "health-stuff" I like to do, like running, stair-master, treadmill, and some rare weightlifting these days.
There's some fun outdoor stuff I like: trail-running, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, camping (though since we've moved away from Utah, we've been doing a lot less of this stuff than I'd like).
I've gotten much more involved and observant religiously over the years, so I spend a lot more time around the synagogue and in related learning and activities lately. I've been (re-)learning Hebrew (I can read, but never really understood it very well).
I still love reading, movies, and TV. Sometimes I like watching video courses on various topics on Youtube, Coursera, or the like.
I like to play guitar, but since we've moved, I haven't been playing as much as I used to.
Of course, I do love my work, even when it's crazy stressful.
Finally, and most importantly, I still spend time with the kids who are still at home (we have one off at college). I've always made it a point to be home for dinner.

Hiking, meditation, cooking, writing, and reading. Of course, I watch too much TV.
However, over the last couple of years, I have really become an intent language learner. It's always been a keen interest for me, but I first got serious while in Saudi, where I learned a lot of Arabic. These days I am learning Spanish. I've moved into the lower intermediate level as a learner, and I am gaining a lot of usable knowledge every day.

I've got a huge extended family and a lot of different friend groups so most of my free time is spent at different family and social events. A lot of my friends are active people so we will often do a hike, run, or group exercise class together which is great!
Left to my own devices I'm a fairly introverted person, so unless brought out by family or friends I tend to be at home cuddled on the couch with my dog and a book. I'm not a parent and I'll never be a parent, so my dog is my "fur baby". We go on adventures to local trails, the dog park, dog friendly errands, play dates, etc.0 -
I work as an in-house litigation attorney for a super-regional property casualty carrier you've probably never heard of (unless you're lucky enough to have purchased one of our policies from an independent agent). In addition, I supervise two other attorneys locally and five others in three remote offices. This keeps me pretty busy, but most days I like my job.
When away from our busy work lives, DW and I enjoy live music and travel. We have two boys in college and a busy HS daughter still at home. I like seeing the kids, watching football, and playing with our two dogs. I'm enjoying time with a new four-legged friend, a 4-month-old Springer who is very full of energy. We have a little boat and greatly enjoy motoring about on Lake Minnetonka. When I can get outside, I like to hike and run.0 -
I have two hobbies - running and photography. My DW & I love taking pictures together, with the peak each year being Spring wild flower season.0

Other than my job (I am a college professor) which keeps me pretty busy, I like to fish and shoot skeet.
I have done many sprint and olympic distance triathlons so during the training season (Jan-Sept) I do a lot of swim/bike/run. Now, mostly just running and a bike ride on the weekend.0
