I have just begun this lifestyle change...just wondering how long people do keto? Is it permanent? A matter of months until the weight comes off?

There's some great info on keto out there online. Ruled.me was where I got a lot of good info from. If you Google keto or ketogenic diet, you will get a lot of stuff. Keto is somewhat controversial because the common idea is that our body needs carbs for energy, which isn't necessarily true.
I've known people who have stayed on a ketogenic diet for years because they really enjoy the lifestyle and all the benefits that come with it. Some people choose to use "maintenance keto" once they reach their goal weight, which is basically keto with a higher carb limit, like 50g a day. I personally think I will always eat low carb, because it seems to be really beneficial for me as far as how my body works. You can talk to your doctor and see what they say about being on the diet long term. I saw in your other post that your doctor is the one who recommended it.
As far as the weight loss, I know everyone is different, but keto is known for accelerating fat loss, and for me the weight starts coming off almost immediately. In my first week this go round I lost 9.3 lbs, and that's pretty significant even taking water weight into account.
Anyway, I added you, and if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. I have done a lot of research on the diet and have a pretty good understanding of it.7 -
For some interesting info/perspective:
I have been taking in a few podcasts that have been interesting "2 Keto dudes" and "the Keto diet podcast" the later seems oriented to women slightly. I usually listen to then in route to work.0
