Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

What does Living the Lifestyle look like when someone else does the cooking? What is LTL? <g>
Do you have strategies for making good choices? Not really
What about portion control? Is it on the plate?
What's worked for you, and what are your challenges? I do try not to use all my weeklies at once, and usually do, especially with a two schooner (20 SPs) limit.

It's always nice when someone else cooks, knowing how is the meal prepared would be helpful.

.•Do you have strategies for making good choices?
I try to careful about eating high calorie foods.

    •What about portion control?
It is important to control portions. If I over indulge I just feel crappy.

•What's worked for you, and what are your challenges?
Eating high fiber foods works better for me it keeps me full longer. Night time snacks are a challenge. DW starts giving me heck to get me to stop.

+ It depends on whether the person preparing the meal is paying attention to my food intolerances.

Do you have strategies for making good choices?
    What about portion control?
+ These two go hand in hand for me. I believe in all things in moderation. And I also believe that I don't need to clean my plate any more.

What's worked for you, and what are your challenges?
+ Speaking up about my food intolerances. I don't have many times when someone else is doing the cooking but when I do, I try to engage the cook in a gracious way so that I can eat what they have prepared. My friends in Virginia are fabulous cooks and are very in tune with my intolerances. Sure hoping we can work out a time for me to visit in 2018!

I love it when someone else cooks. I track the best I can, stick with one serving, and enjoy the experience. It's pretty rare when someone else cooks for me, so I'm definitely appreciative when it happens!

Big distinction eating out=restaurant? I enjoy restaurants and eat a lot of meals in them. Pick and order carefully and practice some portion control. Hasn't been a problem

Out=some else's home? Very challenging. Not going ask SIL to get me some broccoli w/o the cheese goo or salad w/o the "special" dressing. Too much politics. I just do the best I can and make it up some other way.

Given the opportunity, I'm a fussy customer in a restaurant. But find that they can be very accommodating. I also just avoid places that are known for their big portions. No buffets. Still surprises me that people will recommend a restaurant because the servings are large.

So true. Portion sizes are so often out of control. The strategy of asking for the take out container at the same time the food is delivered is one I've never been able to pull off, mostly because it's pretty rare that I ever want to carry food home.

I had Indian delivered a few weeks ago when the rest of the family was out of town. It was very good, and the huge serving allowed me to stretch it over three meals.

Love @Al_Howard 's answer! Like him, I have that most every night. However, since we're talking eating out, for me it usually means at least a day-long strategy of really holding back points knowing an eating adventure (or sorts) is in the cards. If it's multiple days (a trip over a few days or longer) I make sure I'm not eating every meal out. I like to try local places so I make room for them but still have to make tradeoffs.

Do you have strategies for making good choices?
See above. Plus, my go-to is always a take-home box. That makes nearly everything on the menu fair game. I enjoy the challenge of making a high-point meal lower (MTBC). I have gotten picky about what's worth it to me. While I might make an occassional exception and just go off the grid, most of the time I'll either order smarter or eat some or none of the higher or wasted calorie parts of the meal. I often end up a few over my allotment, but rarely way out of the park.

    What about portion control?
Oops, did it again. See above.

What's worked for you, and what are your challenges?
What's worked is above. My ongoing challenge is the part of me that's tired of paying close attention to all this. It's still worth it to me but sometimes I just ---I don't know---resent LTL! But I still do it and at least for another day, I will.

I look at menu ahead by habit. I split entrees etc with DW. Do the best I can.

I try my best to follow the portion guides I learned in WW, such as protein about the size of my palm. Luckily, I have a big palm. ;-)

I also try to have a big veggie to meat ration. Plus, I try to minimize bread, pasta, and rice. I don't eliminate them; but, I try to make sure they are very limited. I also do not add salt until I have tasted my food. I usually do not need it.

    Assuming restaurant.
What does Living the Lifestyle look like when someone else does the cooking?
For me, if I really plan to LTL, then that means I need to decide what to eat before I go out to eat.
Do you have strategies for making good choices?
Know what I'm going to eat before I get there, then follow the plan. It works well for me.
    What about portion control?
I try to pick things that will fit my plan to begin with.. so unless the chef is being overly generous I'll be fine.

What's worked for you, and what are your challenges?
.. If I wait until I'm in the restaurant, and a waiter is staring at me, everyone else is ordering things with taste buds in mind... I Will make a bad decision. Experience has shown me this. If I work my plan, then all is good in my world.
