I am new to this group and have a few questions...I love the hot chocolate diet drink mix that can be ordered https://www.mddietclinic.com/product/high-protein-cappuccino-7box/ It has only 80 calories and has 15 grams of protein and only 3 carbs. I am wondering if anyone has a good recipe for hot choc that would have much the same nutrition values. Some one suggested to use the sugar free & fat free nestle hot coco drink mix and add protein powder.
Now I am curious has any tried this? Is there a good protein that works in hot liquids?

I'm not a protein powder aficionado by any means but when I did use some I never found one that dissolved nicely in hot liquids. A couple whey based powders would mix nicely into warm liquids but in hot liquids they would seize and clump in a most disgusting way.
I've made the Diet doctor keto hot chocolate and it's nice but it's not a meal replacement or heavy protein packer by any means.1 -
Any reason you couldn't dissolve it in a small amount of cool liquid, then add it to the scalding hot water like a slurry?2

My sample size is EXTREMELY limited but with the two powders I used for a while they seized again if you used the slurry technique OR reheated your coffee in the microwave.
After gagging on chunky protein powder in coffee I tried what i thought was everything and then gave up. lol it only takes gagging on your coffee once to quickly find other options.1 -
I added protein powder to too hot coffee a few times... curdling is not good. That being said, I add protein powder to my coffee almost every day without problems. Just not too hot coffee. I add cream or coconut oil first and let it sit a couple of minutes. Now I find protein powders actually mix into warm/hot drinks better than cold.
For real hot chocolate, heat whipping cream (depending on fat goals) and some water, add stevia, vanilla and whisk in some cocoa. Add whey if you want thicker or more protein.... Whisking or blending really helps.2 -
I use Sun Warrior Plus Chocolate - it mixes hot or cold - it's vegan and mostly nuts/seeds so no whey/milk protein.
The vanilla flavor is gross and tastes doughy...the natural flavor tastes kind of like a bean tea, but doesn't mix well and stays very grainy.
The chocolate is perfect hot and I use a milk frother to mix it, so it gets that foamy homemade hot chocolate feel to it.0 -
I wonder if it is specifically the whey that curdles...and whether creamer with carrageenan would contribute to lessening that curdle since it is an emulsifier.

Would it taste weird to heat up a chocolate Premier protein drink?0
