We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for November are:

Monday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - Calvin2008Brian
Wednesday - Rachel0778 (Rachel)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - jimb376 (Jim)

Topic: mini goals. What sorts of short term goals do you set for yourself? Do you do this consistently?

My mini goal is usually my daily and weekly calorie goals. Daily goal is less than 2000 calories (less than 2300 on weekends). Weekly goal is to stick within my calories every day and do high intensity exercise 5 days a week. I'm focusing on these short term goals to get my long term goals back on track!

Yes, I set mini goals to help me keep looking and moving ahead after almost five years LTL!
The 5# WW sticker is an easy one to see since I go to weekly WW meeting.

Personal mini goals are ones that mean something to me and I feel good when I meet them. Like reaching 199!

    My current mini goals are:
    189 (CW 194) I haven’t been below 190 since High School.

188 that will be half my SW of 376!

185 My HS football playing weight.

When I hit 185 I will set my official WW GW. THAT will be a MAXI Goal not a mini goal.

Yes, I do mini goals. My current ones are to do strength training 3 times a week and to do some amount of running 2 times a week.

I also have a goal to do a 100K bike ride once a month for 12 consecutive months. This Sunday will make 3 consecutive months. I live in the Chicago area so the weather can make this a challenging goal to attain. It will be in the 40s and sunny on Sunday so no worries about snow or ice.

I need to get mini goals back into my repertoire. I've had success in the past when I've set small, thoughtful weekly fitness and weight loss goals.

The grandness of my goals often relates to the level of my focus and the intensity of whatever is right in front of me.

If my Signal:Noise ratio is really favorable, then I don't really set mini-goals. I can clearly see the big picture and move toward that.

If there's a lot of 'noise' I need to be much more focused. Whether that's as simple as getting to the gym every day or consuming at least three vegetable servings daily, it really doesn't matter. I have something to focus on and a relatively achievable goal.

On my bicycle, on a steep hill, I may focus just on the ground below me. My goal is to get to the next patch of ground, even if that's six feet away.

I'm much like @countcurt ... the bigger the goal, the more excited I am, and the more dedication to it I have.

Sometimes I set mini goals along the way if I get stuck, however.

Right now, I have a mini goal to get my macros in check daily - I'm giving myself 2 weeks to adjust to this new way of tracking and adjust meal composition accordingly.

Like to habitually walk about 4 miles daily and bike an hour as standards rather than set mini-goals. Similar I guess but more action and less to think about.

Yes I have a mini goal right now of getting back to 300 lbs and back into twoterville. Goal set for January but had some setbacks lately.

    SW 400.8
    CW 318.3
    Next GW 300.0
    Final GW 185.0

    82.5lbs Total lost

I really don't set mini goals, other than maintaining where I am (or where I want to be). I've alternated back & forth on whether this is a good strategy and whether I might do better with mini goals, but so far...hain't done 'em.
