I started to hsve pain in my big toe during a run a week ago. I cut my toenails thinking that would solve the problem and continued to run, but the pain persisted. today part of my nail fell off and there was blood underneath. Should I continue to run through this? I have a bandage on it now not really sure the healing process on this. Has anyone else ecprrienced this?

I just had one black one that healed but my wife has lost 4 toenails. This happens quite often with longer distance runners and downhill running. Depending on the fit of the shoes our toes can experience quite a pounding with each step. This repeated trauma creates a blister underneath the nail. Sometimes blood gets in the blister and other times the nail turns white before falling off. Either way a new nail will push up from the base when the damaged nail falls off. If it's painful rest it until you can resume running without pain.

Chances are your shoes are a bit too small or your feet are swelling in the hot weather. Use all the extra lacing holes up by your ankle and lace them tighter at the ankle and looser towards the toes. You might try "lock lacing" to keep your foot from slipping forward.

Iknow I need new running shoes. I've been laxy about it, but going to get a pair this week. Did you go to the doctor or did it heal on its own? Did yoy keep it bandaged? Did you take a break from running at all?

My black toenail never bothered me and my wife didn't have much pain from her lost nails. She bandaged them and kept on running - after getting some new shoes that were larger.
