I have a confession to make...

I am not doing this by myself. My doctor prescribed me phentermine for weight loss. I've only been on it for a few days but already it's drastically reduced my appetite and made it easier to stick to my 1,200 calorie goal which some people say is too low. But this is the goal my doctor told me was safe for me. I kind of feel like being on the weight loss pill is "cheating" but I was stuck. The weight wasn't coming off fast enough and I was trying really hard. I've lost 5 pounds in 7 days now.

Using a doctor prescribed treatment is NOT cheating. It is being smart enough to use the tools you need to accomplish your goal. Would you tell a diabetic that it's cheating to take Metformin? Insulin? Would you tell someone with migraines it's cheating to take Topomax? Someone with seizures that it's cheating to take anti-seizure medications?
You have a combination of conditions, not the least of which is an eating disorder, binge eating - or something related to it, and the simple fact is that as your metabolism is in need of support and boosting during this time.
I wish you luck. And if your doctor tells you that your calorie settings are okay, just view anyone's comments or recommendations as wishing you well - because that's why they are concerned, etc.3 -
I've been on medication for binge eating disorder for a year. Vyvanse. I never thought I was cheating. I was cheating myself by trying to do it myself when in reality I couldn't3

I've never considered a prescription medication for weight loss (or anything else that might help) as "cheating". I'm presently taking 75mg Topiramate tablets (generic for Topamax) for my Binge Eating Disorder that has helped immensely at curbing my urge to binge and it also reduces my appetite. Without it I would have continued to binge my way back up to over 300 lbs like I did time & time again. It gives me what I need (whatever that is) to continue to lose the excess weight I've gained over the years, so, I'd never consider it "cheating" when it's something that's needed or helps.2
