On my way home from work today, I plan on hitting up whole foods and picking up some stuff... any suggestions?

Ideas for Breakfast / Lunch and Dinner style meals if possible.

Currently I have been making eggs (of some kind) with bacon / chicken sausage in the mornings (which is really my dinner... but I have an issue with eating a pork chop at 8am...im odd). And that's about it...sadly breakfast isn't amazing right now. I have added different thigns to the eggs... but it is still always eggs.

My Lunch / Dinner are usually the same meal. I will make 2 servings before I go to work, eat one then pack the other for lunch. where as this isn't a bad thing generally... it does get boring depending on what I am making.

So, just curious what are some of the things I should start buying on a regular basis that are going to be staples in my pantry (well I don't have a pantry... but whatever).

  • Have you been to Mark's Daily Apple? There's pretty good resources for grocery lists, meal ideas, etc. on there. I too work nights, so I know all about breakfast being dinner, and vice versa... I try not to eat when I get home though. As far as primal, I am only doing about 50/50 right now, so I may not be the best resource for you, but I have spent a fair amount of time researching it.

I usually do an apple, cashew butter, and eggs with butter for breakfast. My easy go-to's for lunch and dinner are chicken breast (can't stand thighs) or hamburger patties with some veggie cooked in butter. I make up 4 chicken patties at a time (bake them in the oven) and also 4 hamburger patties at a time.

I also keep Applegate Farms hot dogs on hand for "I'm starving" emergencies.

    +1 on the steak idea!

I often eat dinner leftovers for breakfast. If you can break the "breakfast food" mindset, it will set you free!!
  • I love to add taco seasoned ground beef and salsa to my eggs when I find straight eggs plus bacon or sausage to be boring. I also add cheeses that I enjoy, but I don't cut cheese, cream or butter out of my diet (ie I'm not "Paleo").

Buy some beef that will provide 5-6 meals for you, cook it, have it for dinner. Then keep the left overs and have them as lunches for the rest of the week. Add a salad, voila, instant steak salad! With a tablespoon of EVOO and red wine vinegar, some oregano, salt and pepper and your lunch is waaaaaay better than anyone else's. :-D

And pork chops .... NOM! I love pork chops and you can do so many interesting things with them. Happy to share my favorite pork rub with you, if you want. It may totally change how you think about pork ;-)

I have been making crustless quiche on Sunday with whatever meat, cheese and veggies I like. Maybe some pesto for something different. I cut it into 5 prices and take it to work and eat it with half and avocado chopped on top.

For lunch sometimes I take a soup made of whatever frozen veggies I have...Broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini (a mixture) are my favorites. Boil till really soft in some broth ,puree and add onion powder, garlic powder, S & P and a little cream if you want and some kind of cheese. So filling especially when you throw in some leftover meat. I really like those flavored chicken sausages.

Dinner is usually meat, veggie salad. Those are just some ideas that aren't just eggs, bacon, salads.

    Have fun experimenting!
