Garmin Connect or Training Peaks Custom Workouts...please help!

Since this is swimming related, figured I would post this here. When I am exercising, especially swimming, I can never remember what lap I am on, so I have been a huge fan of the ability to load workouts onto my Garmin watch. However, Garmin is stupid and their Swim workout builder does not allow you to add steps to repeats, even though every other workout option can allow it. On the flip side, I can kind of do that in Training Peaks, but TP won't load custom swim workouts onto my 935xt; only running. I have tried loading cycling, and it will only load simple ones. If I have too many steps or repeats, it won't send it to the TP app on my 935. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I don't have answers but keen to see if anyone else does as I'm contemplating buying a swim watch and would like to be able to pre-enter my sessions which often include variable intervals.

Personally, I don't create any "swim" workouts. I just swim. Sometimes I pause my Garmin between sprint and cruise intervals so I can capture specific interval times. But I don't use the interval function during the swim. Just the total swim distance and time.
I have the Fenix 5X. I like it. If there is one thing I wish I could change is the point at which it switches from yards to miles while I'm swimming. At 5300 yards it switches to 3.01 miles. I swim 4 miles in the morning.
Since I am not training for competition I do not set out to do specific drills.
