Non Scale Victories

@JJKM02 Welcome!! I love your confidence! I feel similarly. I, of course, have days when I feel less confident, but I truly believe that I WILL reach my goal! I think gained self-confidence is one of the biggest NSVs there is. It’s the one that will keep us going... even on the bad days.0

I THANK you for motivation guys....I did 5 mins on bike yesterday only 1.5 km hoping to up it every other day xxx4

@jules81 that’s fantastic! Remember, “Slow and steady wins the race!”1

let's see. My latest NSV was right around Christmas, I was able to get into CJ Banks size 22W dress pants. I can finally get into 3X tops (though I like my tops a little baggie, so I'm still clinging to my 4x tops). I'm almost comfortably into the size 22W; some styles and cuts are still just a bit too tight. I was able to put on a pair of Rider's 22W jeans and get them buttoned, but I think they'd still be just a little too tight.
Oh, and Sunday before last, as I was unpacking (I recently moved back home, and gutted and remodeled a house from my grandfather, though technically the parents did most of hte work and I just paid for it lol), I was going through my clothes and setting aside all the stuff that was too big. STuffed in the bottom were 2 skirts and 2 dresses. The 2 skirts were from my high days 20+ years ago and were skirts I had loved but had to quit wearing when they got too tight. They weren't worn out so I had kept them all these years, telling myself I'd get back into them one day.
The one dress was the bridesmaid dress I wore to my brother's wedding in 2012. The other dress I had bought in 2012 at a Ren faire. It had been too little at the time, but I had bought it when i was losing a lot of weight back then as a motivation to keep going. I hung it on my closet doors for months until the weight plateaued and then piled back on; finally, I sadly and ashamedly stuffed it back into my closet.
Well, that Sunday, I tried the skirts and the dresses on. The skirts fit and fit comfortably! In fact, I wore one of them just last Sunday to church The bridesmaid dress fit better now than it did when I wore it to my brother's wedding. And the ren faire dress? I can't declare that it fits just yet, but I WAS able to get it on! It was just a smidge too tight, but like my mom said, if I put on some shapewear under it, I could probably get buy with it.4 -
@bmeadows380 That's so encouraging! I know you did a happy dance. I have a lot of clothes that I keep saving "for when they fit" and I can't wait until I'm making a similar post.0

I've been losing weight for a while now (slow and steady for sure) but only within the past week have I started seeing actual NSVs. Yesterday, I went to the park and actually ran off and on for the first time in years. And today, when I was grocery shopping, I felt my pants kind of slipping down, which for me is HUGE because I could barely zip them up without crying several months ago. I'm finally starting to see results and it's motivating me to work even harder!6

that's wonderful, fairies! Yup - the clothes part can be really encouraging!1

I have noticed that I've started sleeping a little better and waking up feeling more rested probably 90% of the time. I still have weird insomnia-ish nights, but overall, this month has been great for my sleeping and energy, which is a huge change from November and even December of last year.3

So, this is kind of an odd NSV, but I haven't bought a new car in 20 years, primarily because I was worried about looking stupid squeezing in and out of them in front of a seller, getting out of breath walking around a big lot, etc. My old car was old, but my butt had beat the front seat into submission over the years and I was relatively comfortable in it. That said; I definitely needed a new one for a while now.
Yesterday bought a new car It's a Kia Sorento, and I was pretty excited when I mostly fit when I went to test drive it.
Yesterday was just a great day all around. I also walked about 7k steps, which is more than I ever have since I started tracking and it wasn't a problem. I can see myself getting to 10k regularly in a month or two.11 -
that's wonderful, alevans! I know all about the "not fitting behind the wheel" and hated driving my Honda in the winter time when the steering wheel would rub against my winter coat.
Now I still don't feel like I have a lot room in the Honda, but that's because of my long legs - I need that seat back another 6 inches so I can stretch my legs out and not get cramps!1 -
This is sort of a non-scale victory. It involves the scale, but not for me. My husband has lost 5 or 6 pounds since I made this lifestyle change because #1 we don't binge drink or drink at all anymore and #2 I purposely cook lower calorie (but still delicious) meals. So, just from those changes he lost weight.
He has now asked me for advice on losing another 10 pounds!!! I was floored because I know this means he knows this is it for me. He can see how much I believe in myself and that I am not going to give up! That is a great feeling!

@crazykatlady820 That is SO awesome! I hope some of my family members do the same.2
-
@crazykatlady820 : That is a huge NSV! My husband and I started this journey together and it has been really helpful having his support. I applaud you for doing such an awesome job that it is now inspiring your significant other to do the same!

@alevans4 That's such a great one!! We had to rent a car in January last year and I was so embarrassed because when we were picking one out, we weren't looking for bells and whistles. I was literally just sitting in the driver's seat of each one until I could pick the one that was most comfortable for me to drive. I felt like a fat Goldilocks! Maybe next time we have to rent a car it won't be that way.2

I've not had any just recently but the best one I had was one day when I suddenly realised that when I looked down I couldn't see my belly sticking out beyond my (admittedly huge!) boobs!5

I'm looking forward to that day! I have a horrible skin fold on my tummy, though, that was the result of wearing my jeans too tight in college and forming a muffin top that just got bigger as i gained weight. Now that I"m losing again, its deflating, but now it just hangs *cringes* I know, too much info, but it IS a reality when you get to a very large size and lose weight!
Anyway, I'm almost down to the point where the boobs and the belly are about even, and if I force myself to stand up straight while looking in the mirror and wearing a very good bra, I might just be able to say the belly is a little shorter, but not by much yet.
Bad part is that the bust size is going down too, so it's like the bust and belly keep even with each other!3 -
@bmeadows380 I know how you feel! My boobs are the first place I start losing... It's not fair.
Also, I don't think it's TMI! I feel like the whole point of this board is to share stuff you can't share with the other people in your life.0 -

and that's one thing that those of us starting over 300 lbs have to deal with that the smaller folks don't - sorry, skin is elastic only to a point, so saggy "bat wings" and rolls of skin are a fact of life. I look at it as a badge of honor and proof that I made it.
And when you're feeling especially low, you can comfort yourself in knowing that the loose skin accounts for between 5 to 10 lbs depending on how much you have.... lol2 -
I’m in the same boat with the loose skin. I’m most worried about my upper thighs. Right now they’re starting to look like deflated balloons I figure I’ll get to my goal for a few years and think about surgery to tighten a few areas up. Fingers crossed that I get lucky and stuff tightens up a bit on its own. But regardless, loose skin is much better than the alternative.3

Heyyyyy guys!
So last week I was sick, ate like crap because I didn't feel like cooking. So the scale of course didn't move, luckily it didn't go up any either. I started this week feeling pretty defeated and unmotivated, but powered through any ways. I took this picture to send to my baby daddy (lol) today, and realized just how far I have come! I still haven't lost a pants size, and only a few people have noticed, but i decided to do a comparison picture and I am blown away! This is exactly the boost I needed to kick off the weekend!

There is definitely a big difference - way to go!0

If boob talk makes anyone uncomfortable this is your warning that I'm about to talk about my girls.
Okay, I've got another NSV! A few years ago when my weight started climbing above 300 I sort of gave up on regular bras. The ones I had no longer fit and I was too sad and embarrassed to go get fitted for larger ones. I didn't even know where to go for bras in my size. Anyway, I've been wearing sports bras for the past 4 years, and not even very flattering ones (Can you say uniboob?).
Today I glanced in the mirror while I was changing my shirt and noticed that my boobs were looking quite nice for a change! I decided to try on one of my old regular bras... I have lost 42 pounds after all, so maybe I could gauge when they might fit again. I didn't expect them to fit at all. But they did. I have never been more excited to put my boobs in boob jail! So, I wore a nice bra that lifted and separated my girls quite nicely. It was weird to look in the mirror and not have a uniboob! Plus, wow they were sitting up high! Haha! I'm so happy to be back in normal bras. It's one of those things I used to take for granted and never realized I would miss. But I felt feminine again and it felt so nice.9 -

There was another thread on here where these ladies were lamenting losing cup sizes. They said they were down to playing around with vanity weight, but as soon as they lost a cup size, they'd stop.
Well, that got me to paying attention to my own bra (I was down to about 90 lbs lost at this point). and I realized they did look a little loose. so I found a bra the next size down and wow-it fit! I had went down a whole cup size!
and unlike most ladies, I was thrilled - size ain't its all cracked up to be, let me tell ya! My back definitely appreciates it!3 -
Yesterday my family was out running errands and went to Moe's for lunch and Dunkin Doughnuts for a snack. They offered to skip it, but I've been tracking food for a month and know I have to sustain this forever if I'm going to make a permanent change. And, I ate at both places and only went over my calories by 35, and that was because I didn't read the menu right at first. I had a junior burrito with all fresh ingredients and one doughnut (not two or three like I used to). That plus reakfast used all my calories for the day, so I skipped dinner, but I was feeling full and kind of yucky from the junk food anyway.
I woke up today and had lost! I'm half a pound from 20 pounds down! In the past if I "broke my diet" and had a doughnut I would just quit. Knowing there's no real forbidden fruit as long as I stay within my calories makes me know I can do this. It's not about willpower and deprivation. It's about being aware of what and how much I eat.
And makes me even more resolved to eat healthy today!8 -
my NSV hmm to just do this without giving up , I have always dieted one way or the other and after about 6 days I would say screw it and eat , but my family had pizza last night , and my son had 6 doughnuts in a box for the last 3days and I didn't eat any of it , not even just the toppings off the pizza , just to tempting . I cooked my family a hamburger and rice and tomatoes dinner with greenbeans , (since i am doing lowcarb) I didn't eat any of it , I stayed on my diet and ate my foods I can have . this is big deal for me , because it's like my brain has finally said OK you really want this so I will help out your body LOL5

Cheers to sticking to your guns @tammyfranks2
I have a similar NSV. For Christmas, someone gave me a $10 gift card for a frozen custard place in my town. I still have $10 on that card. I keep saying l’m going to treat myself with it one day, but haven’t wanted to spend the calories.4 -
Another NSV I forgot to mention... I am officially wearing a size 22 in pants!! I can’t remember the last time I wore a 22. Sometime during junior high or high school probably.7
-
My NSV is a step based one, yesterday with a lot of treadmill and exercise bike effort I actually managed to clear 10561 steps and do 18 flights of stairs according to my Fitbit! I’m thrilled. I was averaging around 3500 steps and 3 floors on a good day so to do this is awesome!
Only downside is daughter decided to run on my very elderly borrowed treadmill and it seems to have killed it1 -
And that only posted half of my post? How odd. I put a sad face in and it stopped there!
I was saying I was going to buy a treadmill anyway but hadn’t planned to just yet so bye bye savings! Humph!0 -
@fatoldladyonamission it sounds like you’ve found a routine that works for you! That’s so great!
Re: the disappearing post, whenever you use emojis from your phone MFP doesn’t like it. I guess it messes with the codes or something. If you’re on the app, click the smiley face above the text box for a drop down of MFP approved emojis. This has happened to me lots of times. They work on the newsfeed/wall, but not in the forums for some reason.1
