Good morning! Just thought I'd start this week's thread. I felt like I had a great week this past week, so we'll see how that reflects in my numbers on Thursday. I've been doing more weight lifting and body weight exercises and I've been drinking a boat load of water everyday. It feels great!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! :)

Well, slight uptick, but I am anticipating the other five to show sometime soon. As I mentioned in a thread last week, the dr. added augmentin to the antibiotic routine for the strep and well, now I have Imodium, monistat, prep h and A&D ointment to the routine. It did knock out the strep and I feel better, getting stronger every day, though still a little battle going on somewhere. augmentin worked so well, it kills even the good bacteria in my belly, so yeah. Sore bum. Staying on soups for now to keep the tummy and bum in check.

Kelly, so happy to hear you're on track. Please keep that achilles babied for a bit. Let it fully heal and recover.

I'm living vicariously through you gals and your activities for another week...looking forward to your updates.

Yikes girl. Glad to hear the strep is gone but sad to hear about everything else you've got going on! We all know what that's like. Feel better soon!
The Achilles is almost back to normal. Just a twinge every once and awhile so I'm not doing any cardio. Sticking to weights for now.
It's home day tomorrow and I can't wait!

Hi, everyone. I've been a little quiet for the past few days because things have been very busy for me. We went with a small group for the Women's March on Saturday. When I got home, I had more than 10,000 steps, and that didn't include all that standing time on the metro train and then about 3 hours of standing on the mall. I got home, and got another 2000 steps doing some errands, but then after dinner, I crashed. Then yesterday, I gave myself a break because the standing or something was causing me a little pain in my calves. So we did some sit-down volunteer work last night, I caught up on phone calls during the day, and I ended the day at only a little over 5000 steps even though it was a no-desk day.

Today has been weird. I had to report to work at 7 a.m. for instructions about handling the Government shutdown. I was in meetings all morning. At 1 p.m. we were told to log out of our government inbox and to check personal email because our company was sending us some work to do for them so we could be billable for the whole day. It turned out that they made us update our resumes. UGH!!!!

I'm not sure if my walking buddy is walking tonight, but I hope so. I don't think I'm having much luck at getting the scale moving despite less sugar and more walking. Yesterday, it was cashews that threw me a curve! So I'm eating less sugar, but the fat in my non-sugary snacks are keeping my calories at about even. Got to get them less.

Lois, I do hope you get better soon. So many people have colds and sore throats that they just can't shake. Whatever is out there is really a doozy. Take care of yourself.

Kelly, glad to hear that the Achilles is getting better. I know you're glad to be headed home. Don't forget us while you're there. I did get a chance to take a quick peek at that link, and we're all in agreement about that handsome guy!!

Sheesh, hubby and I loved your rhyme.

Okay. So at least on weigh-in day I'm showing movement in the right direction. (Yes, I remember, Lois. I can't whine about the days that are not weigh-in day! LOL)

I've been quiet lately too, due to a confusing illness the last week: Thursday, lifted heavy and got 10K steps and felt great. Friday, woke up with a tickle in my chest, began coughing and getting asthmatic. Took Muscinex DM, inhaler. Saturday, woke up with a sore throat, although not really bad, and started getting a more productive cough, took it easy, took medicine. Sunday, woke up feeling better, still took it easy. Monday, worked out with trainer, had to dash to bathroom to puke, quit early. Tuesday, trainer brought me soup, she's so cute :), felt better. During the night last night, started coughing again, felt nauseas. Today, nausea, dizziness and running to the bathroom. I'm so confused. I don't have a fever, body aches, or headache, and I don't feel terrible. I don't even feel sick enough to go the doctor. Sore throat is gone. WTH? I'm debating whether to cancel my trainer tomorrow morning. Tummy is still bouncy. :disappointed:

Lois, I can relate a little bit to what you've been going through. I wonder what it is? I had a flu shot, which I understand is only somewhat effective. Did you have a flu shot? If not, maybe you got the full impact of it, PLUS strep throat. It doesn't feel like the flu to me. More like an upper respiratory cold, except for the tummy stuff. Feel better soon. I hope Kelly and Sarah can avoid.

Kelly, it's so awesome you're lifting weights! I know a lot of women are afraid they'll look "bulky", but I've found that is really hard to do. The photo I took of my arms that day was after a LOT of pumping up, lol! I work at it, and I feel like I barely get to "toned". Increasing muscle mass really makes us burn more fat and look better. Plus, takes good care of your bones. Keep us updated on your results and thoughts on it. Have a great time at home :)

Sarah, I'm so happy you went to the march! I was going to attend the one here, but it was snowing and, as I said above, I felt crappy. We were snowed on last year too. Congratulations on the reduction! More than a pound is very good and to be celebrated. Getting your steps done makes a difference. What would you think about some dumbbell routine? It only take 15 - 20 minutes :#

Kelly - do well at home. Like Sheesh says - yeah for lifting weights. Your muscle will continue to burn calories after you're done with your workout. Safe trip home.

Sarah - yep - count each reduction and that was a pretty great reduction!! Think about what Sheesh is mentioning adding some weights to your routine.

Sheesh - so sorry with what you're feeling!!! I'd call the doc just to be safe with everything going around. My Dr. ruled out the flu. Said I just had a cold on Saturday. Monday turned into upper respiratory infection - then came antibiotics and then Tuesday the strep and the mega antibiotic. Whatever is going around is pretty brutal. One of my physician friends, who had the flu shot, has been down since last Friday. He's on tamiflu and other stuff. I don't know that I've known him to be ill in the past other than allergies. Kinda freaky. And the stuff I'm dealing with now is just because we blasted my body with these antibiotics. Now, on Christmas night I thought it might be the flu but it was just a stomach virus for 24-48 hours and zofran was needed to stop the puking. We have another employee who left the office this morning with the crud. It's hitting every person in our office. One more and seriously - everyone.

The one blessing I have is that my weight is holding at 213. I can't really eat much, no real appetite and it comes out the backside - even with Immodium, b it's slowing it down, if not stopping completely. My bum is recovering and feeling much better. Get home exhausted so no workouts for me at all. I did chop and freeze some veggies and chicken last night. Saturday I bought veggies thinking I'd get to them and nope...wiped out. Today was trash day and I didn't want to throw them away. So I have some frozen veggies ready to go.

Everyone be sure to rest and stay healthy.

I have never seen a winter with so many people sick, and it seems that many test negative for the flu, but have some type of respiratory issue that just won't go away. It ebbs and then comes back with more or different symptoms. And then, of course, there are the feared stomach bugs. There was an article in the Washington Post today about the virulent version of flu that has hit DC. A lot of hospitals and assisted living centers have stopped allowing visitors or they're strictly limiting them.

Hope you all get well soon, and Kelly--let's hope you and I can continue to dodge the bullet. Knock on wood!

And yes--weights must be part of my routine soon.

Woot woot! It’s not a lb but I’ll take the downward motion.

My legs are still so sore from a leg and butt workout I did on Monday. Have a hard time getting down to sit on the toilet lol besides the quad pain, the lifting is going well and I really like it.

Geez you poor ladies and your sicknesses! It’s definitely going around here too. Pneumonia too. I was already sick at the beginning of winter so I’m hoping that’s it for me. I had the flu then. Get well soon ladies and be sure to get lots of water!

I’m typing on my phone and this isn’t that easy so I just thought I’d touch base quickly. We have a busy week here at home. Off to visit my parents today and more hockey for the kiddos tonight.
    Thinking of you all!

Great reduction Kelly :) Congrats, and keep up the good work. A brief warm-up and a little walking cool down really help keep me from getting too sore after a good lifting session.

Sarah, that is exactly how my bug has gone . . ebbs, then comes back with more or different symptoms. Especially if I try to do too much during ebb, lol. So, today I opted for a safer course and canceled my trainer. I went out with friends for a birthday last night. I passed on alcohol and dessert, ate healthy, and got home early to bed. Kept my germs to myself and lots of hand washing. I still have symptoms, so I'm just going to take it easy until I feel completely well. And, lots of water Kelly ;) Continue to steer clear of this!

Lois, I'm hoping you're turning the corner on this awful bug. Take your time . . I really had a set-back after trying to work out Monday with trainer.

Taking care of yourself is way more important than activity now, Sheesh. A friend of ours ended up at the ER last night with this awful thing, even though her doc got her started on tamiflu quickly.

We thought about going downtown again tomorrow for the People's March, but I'm beginning to feel like I'm playing Russian roulette with the crowds on the metro.

Kelly - GREAT reduction. ANY reduction is a GREAT reduction in my world. Like Sheesh says, the warm ups and cool downs are crucial. Oh I miss my training. Have fun with the kiddos. Stay focused while you're home.

Sheesh - Awesome job at passing on alcohol and desserts!! I am sorry to hear of the setbacks. Today is the last day of augmentin and I've done no exercising. Work and commuting takes all of my energy. I had a 3 hour hair appt last night and during a the processing, my friend laughed as I was nodding off. Not planning on any workouts, rides or training until next weekend. This weekend taking down the Christmas decorations should be plenty of activity. And like you said, I do not want any setbacks.

Sarah - take care of yourself and I hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

Have a great weekend and stay active.

Yes indeed. Congrats on that loss, Kelly. Lois, to you I say the same as I said to Sheesh--rest and recover.

I worked late tonight and so I think I got only about 7500 steps, and those were in a few bouts on the TM. I have no ooomph. Hubby's neck is acting up so we are passing on the march tomorrow, but the weather is going to be unseasonably warm (mid-50's) and partly sunny, so I hope to get out and about and get some "natural" movement in. I feel like a little hamster on that TM sometimes. Probably look like a chubby little hamster, too! LOL

I haven't been walking or working out at all for several days. I will have a better day, and then at night feel congested and coughing again. So, I'm just taking it really easy, staying inside and staying warm. We've used the opportunity to start working on our taxes (hubby is a trustee and has to do taxes on that also), so at least we're getting that done. We may venture out later today since it's 49 degrees. I need to get out. My plan is to work out with my trainer tomorrow morning. I'm much better with only a bit of runny nose now. This bug really takes its time running its course :/

The chubby hamster comment made me laugh Sarah! I know how you feel. The treadmill is such a ridiculous thing for we humans to need.

Take care Lois. It just takes the time it takes. We'll get back at it soon.
