Hey everyone!
My name is Kenzie. I'm 22 years old, 5'5" and 153lbs
I am so glad I found this group! I am almost done with week 2 of p90x and man, it's been kicking my butt! Eating healthy is not the problem for me since I like healthy foods (fruits and veggies, fish, etc). I'm actually having a hard time eating all the calories i'm supposed to. But I haven't consistently worked out for something like 5 years so getting myself to actually DO the workouts can be a struggle... especially with days like kenpo and plyometrics!
I'm really liking how it's making me feel so far. I have more energy and am keeping my snacking under control!
I took the before pics so prepare to see some awesome before and after pics in a few weeks!
Now, here's the question I REALLY wanted to ask! Instead of losing weight, so far I have actually GAINED 3 lbs... is that normal? I know it probably has something to do with gaining muscle that weighs more than the fat I'm losing...but it's still a bummer. Any input?
Thanks!

Hi Kenzie,
I gained a few pounds my first week too. It is normal. Ryan can explain it better than I can to you. I have been doing Power 90 and am excited to start P90X next.

Hi Kenzie,
Welcome and it is great to have you join us. I love P90X. It sure changed my life around for the better. It made me get into the best shape of my life and I have met so many awesome people through P90X. Eating enough calories is important to lose weight.
When I started P90X it had been over a year before I worked out. I also only worked out for less than a year and before that it had been over 10 years.
Gaining a few pounds is normal in the first few weeks. When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and “unfamiliar” the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to “protect and defend” the effected or targeted tissue. Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS.
This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens, the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen due to fluid retention. This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program. Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of water retention and slight swelling.
Most people are motivated enough to put up with this temporary muscle soreness. Yet, many, especially those who really need immediate weight loss to keep them motivated, become discouraged and quit!
I also gained weight but after 90 days of P90X I lost over 30 pounds. Besides pictures did you take measurements of yourself? That is critical too. I have many tips and videos on my Facebook group that you can join. Any questions please ask me.
My Facebook group link is below. We would love to have you join us there. I have several new P90X members starting soon and several in weeks 3 and 4 right now. Anyone and everyone working out to any Team Beachbody program is welcome to join.
