Living the Lifestyle - Weds 3/7

We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for March are:

Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - Calvin2008Brian
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard

Today's Topic: both sides of the lifestyle coin ... tell us what's going well for you right now, and also an area where you can do better.

What's going well for me now is I am sticking with my portions I have allotted for my meal.
    (Finally)
I still can do better at picking at night when I'm not hungry.

The positive: I didn't let winter weather slow me down much with my biking.

The negative: Work stress and uncertainty over the finances of my employer are leading to stress eating.

heads: I'm running a bit. At least it's something!

tails: I've been inconsistent with tracking, my weight has trended up over last 4-5 WIs, and I've ducked out of weighing in this week instead of owning up to it. :s

positive: I've been going to the gym 3 times a week and going for an hour + walk 3 times a week. I'm trying to make this a solid habit. The scale is creeping down slowly, which is better than the alternative.

Could do better: Social eating and wine. I like having a glass of wine, it's not helping my weight loss. Social eating is a challenge for me.

Going well: Tracking everything I eat. I still hate it, but I've done it every day for 66 days. And it seems to be working.

Not so well: Still enjoying my Doritos Nacho Cheese chips as a snack at night while watching TV. The good news is that I *do* weight out 28g (1 oz) of them and I limit my snack to that. The better news is that I plan for them and leave enough daily calories to cover them.

I think when this bag is gone, I'll buy apples and have them instead. Or maybe not.

As an aside, it's amazing how long a bag of chips lasts when you're only eating 1 oz of them a day.

The good: Always tracking (the good, the bad and the ugly).
The Bad: WAY TOO MUCH NIGHT SNACKING!!
The Ugly: Still like my beer, and have too many too often, which leads to more eating.

“what's going well for you right now”
Lost the January gain in February.

“area where you can do better”
Need to plan better meals including veggies. I take quick and easy food, too lazy to actually plan a balanced meal.

.. tell us what's going well for you right now, and also an area where you can do better.

I'm doing well intake-wise. I've been able to shed a few pounds and bring my weight back into my maintenance mode (haven't had to pay for a WW meeting since my rude awakening earlier this year).

I could improve on the exercise front, and actually want to. I had hoped to have begun C25K training by now, but I think that may have been a little optimistic. As with some of you, Winter has been relentless here. We've had five or six melts that have taken 1-2+ ft of snow down to nothing, warm days and then bam!--slammed again with snow. The most recent event was a week ago. I'm not counting the snow warning for tonight since it hasn't happened yet (and we haven't lost the last storm's snow). All that said, I'm still walking my 3 miles most every day, but I could certainly up my game in this department...

Doing ok but could be slightly more active and mindful. Did tough hill climb by bike yesterday and not as bad as I thought.

Going well: I'm happy with how I'm eating and feel like I'm back in the groove and up for the slog that is loss mode. I'm really feeling good about it. Realistic, but good.

Not going well: I'm still a couch potato.
