Thought I would get us kicked off this week. Hope you all are doing well. Love to hear from you all if you have a chance.
I am struggling to get over a cold so I am not doing my fast day today, just my normal calorie level. Trying to give my body what it needs to fight the cold. Not sure this will be a great week on the scale but there is always next week.

Oh geez.... I pressed the ‘done’ button after writing a post!! Should of pressed ‘post reply’!!!!
Oh well. Well thanks jknight! Although sorry to hear about your cold.... chicken soup is in your meal today I hope
I’m hoping that some people are like me and still get encouragement when they read this weekly thread!! So I will try to do my part too. When you get to that ‘I’m tired of doing this’ stage, sometimes just reading about others helps your focus....(I went in at length about this in my disappeared post). Anyhow, I’m wondering who here does planks? I get on a kick about this every few month or so and since I haven’t done my weights since Christmas (sorry Flossy) I thought I’d start back up and include planks too!
Off to walk the dog, then out for fish & chips tonight for dinner ... except I’ll sub out the chips for garden salad!
Have a great day people!2 -
Hi gang!
As you know I am taking a break from regular five and two, so doing a typical low calorie day and week. Feels strange not fasting today! Feeling good though and hoping my change up will get the scale moving a little faster.
Hope you feel better @jknight001
Hi @mamainthekitchen and thanks for your comments on last week's post.
See you soon!2 -
@jknight001 hope you're feeling better soon.
@mamainthekitchen I'm trying to get back into posting as well. Been away a long time (popping in and out).
@Meghan509 good to see you...remember that there are the health/anti-cancer benefits of fasting as well. I have been showing big swings up and down on the scale (I'm a really big guy), but staying around the same weight for a few weeks. Considering how much I lost in January/December it can be disheartening, but I believe I was getting sick (diabetes?) and I was losing muscle at a rapid pace before jumping on keto.
No fasting for the past week, been nibbling all day long the past 2 days, but keeping carbs around 20. I've had days of eating double calories and 1/2 calories and I keep floating around the same scale weight. I am not putting emphasis on this because I am feeling better and I can feel "sections" loosing size. For the moment I'm letting my body tell me when I've had enough.
Talking about being sick: In the 2nd week of January my sight was getting blurry (to where I had to buy a cheap pair of reading glasses), my feet and legs hurt, I was always thirsty, going to the bathroom about every 45 minutes (including at night), and I was getting rashes that would not heal (sorry, yeah, gross)....there were a few days too that I could not find the energy to get out of bed. I knew something was up...I lost about 50 lbs from Thanksgiving into the 2nd week of January (and this was w/holidays/leftovers and not trying to lose weight). I watched that video someone put in the sticky thread where Moseley talked about becoming diabetic and doing the ~800 cal a day diet for 18 days to "reverse" it. I felt pretty confident that I was into diabetes 2 or on the fringe, but never went to the doctor...I didn't want to know...unequivocally.
I started looking around for other options, knowing that if I didn't find something I could still try the 18 day fast; and started reading/watching about keto and the benefits and the combination of fasting with keto. Anyway, I took the plunge and I spent about $400 ketofying my kitchen and the short (ish) answer is that within weeks all of that went away. Phew!
Anyway, I still have things to work on but have proven to myself that I can still fast while staying on keto. But what I was trying to get at, finally, is the reason I think I am sticking around the same weight is that my body has been repairing/replacing a lot of the muscle I lost. Just based on the strength I've gained I'm pretty sure that's the case.
I should work on getting to my points more quickly.2 -
Hi @orlcam I totally agree!
I enjoy fasting and I do appreciate the health / anti-cancer benefits that it provides. I am a cancer survivor so I am all about utilizing those benefits. I eat healthy as you know LOL. I take a bunch of multi-vitamins, aim to get 20 minutes or more of exercise, I don't smoke, eat very little red meat, I avoid nitrates whenever possible so we buy lunch meats and stuff that don't contain them, and I drink very little alcohol (just on the weekends). Cancer can kiss my rear end.
I think my body just needs a little reset and a little more "plain Jane" WOE for a bit. I hope to get back to 5:2 in the future. I also like doing Intermittent Fasting as I think that has helped me in the past.
I am doing a calorie cycling thing for my first week to play around with things. Felt too strange to not cut down on calories on a Monday so yesterday was a 1200 day and I didn't eat back any of the exercise calories I burned. I officially ate breakfast yesterday - something I haven't really done since last summer. Felt fine and wasn't overly hungry until lunch time. Today I've just had coffee this AM and am spreading my calories out between lunch, dinner, and a snack or two.
Today and Wednesday I am planning a typical 1371 calorie day, so that's exactly 500 calories below my TDEE. Thursday I'll do 1200 again. Friday and any typical regular type of day, I will aim for 1371 or so. Going to try this for a bit, and see how things progress and how the scale reacts.
Planning to hit the gym the rest of the week (today through Thursday), weather permitting!
Snowing here in southern New England but honestly more like a rainy mix. Piece of cake.
See you guys soon.1 -
Hi all it's my daughters birthday so that means party food however i was impressed as i found some low cal vegetarian bites that were really tasty i served them up with salad and potatoes, along with pizza and goujons for the kids. They felt like treat food plus i was able to have loads with even space for cake. Totally horrific cake in terms of calories as it was made with oil but i had a smaller chunk and new the receipe as my sister in law made it...a rainbow unicorn cake. I can get a lemon drizzle cake down to 143 for a good wedge of a slice but my sister in law who makes them for a living to keep fresh/moist longer would be 1200 a slice however that's a restaurant dessert size serving of a door wedge and fully loaded with icing and buttercream frosting so i left that off too and had a piece less than 300 cals. Anyway that's enough about cake but tells some truth why the scales stick!? I've upped exercise and did an 1.5hr walk yesterday and today. Have a good week all.0

Happy birthday to your daughter @sjgold123. Mmmmm cake...gotta have it sometimes. I've been doing ice creams; just bought a bunch of extracts from Amazon...tried the cheesecake and added key-lime...very good, but too strong; will have to try 1/2 the extract next time. My daughter and I have come up with a great mint chocolate chip recipe made with avocados, ricotta cheese, and peppermint/spearmint essential oils. These ice creams are fat-bombs with MCT oil added...great for keto, but not so much for fasting.
@Meghan509 snow is fun. We need some to take out another cycle of mosquitoes down here in the bayou. Sounds like your fasting/not-fasting...your calorie deficit should wind up being greater by the end of the week.
Drew Brees...yay!
Got back to "window" eating today...21/3. I was at the low-line of my weight before I ate this evening, I'm guessing I'll be breaking through tomorrow.
Have a good one...

Just typing something to make the thread look busy...gotcha...forced you to come in and look.
Hiya!3 -
@jknight001 hope you’re feeling better !!
Meghan glad you’re popping in often and good luck with your weather!! Hate to rub it in but we had 13C today and sunny!! Still cold in the shady trails I take the dog but warming in the sunshine... soon you’ll be begging for an ice cold beer by the beach!! Ha!
@sjgold123 I had bday cake here too (the hubs bday and he doesn’t even like cake) I bought a small portion of a carrot cake... I had a sliver! 1.5 hr walk is awesome! That’s easy your 10k steps right there! That’s what I was doing when I was really losing weight... can I ask what brand runners? I am desperate for new ones and I think that’s why I’ve slowed done my walking... because my legs/feet kill me when I get back!
@orlcam... k, not sure about what D. Brees has done since football is over..... hey at least I know who he is!
I’ve been feeling a little toxic lately. No wonder since I’ve been over indulging for the last 6 months! Duh! I’m wanting to have a broth fast.... I blame my eating on my family... sometimes they all drive me crazy! Would love a day on my own without someone saying.. “what, are you not making dinner??!” Ahhh... grown kids at home is so not normal!! Tomorrow the hubs gets his knee surgery then I’ll be at his beacon call for who know how long... oh yea me. At least I’ll be kept busy doing e every thing around here!
Off to get some needed shut eye!

Brees: yeah I forget the rest of the world doesn't revolve around the Saints...he re-signed (not resigned) with the home team, most likely he'll finish his career here.
Dinner: well...you are "mama in the kitchen"...
Grown kids...not normal: had to laugh out loud at that one.
Good luck.1 -
Hi guys!
Hope everybody is good.
Yep, I am hoping my new calories per day will help me mix things up. When I weighed in this AM to get an idea of where I was before my weekly weigh in tomorrow, I saw I am up around two pounds. I have been eating clean all week and hitting the gym for weights and cardio, though I missed my gym time last night (would have been weights) as we had a conflict.
The only thing I can think of is I am retaining water for some crazy reason. Nope, no TOM around so that is not it. I have a large glass of water sitting in front of me and I have been pretty good about drinking it. Or it could be the fact that my legs are kind of sore. Could be adding some muscle. Not sure as I typically do weights twice a week. Yes, my walking fast on an incline builds muscle, but the jury is still out here. In any case, sticking with what I am doing and going to keep moving ahead. Sigh...
The snow didn't end up being anything major, thank God! But, they are saying another Nor'easter is on its way to us Tuesday/Wednesday and they are going to let us know when it is closer what to expect as far as if it will be snow or rain and how much. Counting the weeks until vacation in the Caribbean!
I would take mosquitos and 13 C (55 F to me) any day. I really don't like the cold! Supposed to be decent tomorrow, and the weekend. We got this! LOL
@orlcam agree that it is good news that Brees wants to stay with the Saints. Can't imagine any other QB coming in and taking over for him. He's a great player!
Good luck with your husband's surgery @mamainthekitchen!
Hope everybody fasting today has a good day! See you guys soon.2 -
@Meghan509 you haven't met these mosquitoes.
Yeah, I think it's the soreness...the body must be swarming the area thinking something is wrong (inflammation). You've probably got a big woosh coming soon.
Only had about 35 cals since 8-ish last night, about 19 hours ago, I think I may turn this one into a fast.
See ya2 -
LOL about the mosquitos @orlcam I can only imagine! Hope your fast worked out for you!
I have a friend who is getting married down in New Orleans this October. She is from here in CT, but her and her fiance' love it down there and have friends of their family nearby, etc. Oh and they are Saints fans too. LOL
Hopped on the scale this AM. Still up two pounds from my all time low a few weeks ago. Managed to lose a half a pound since Thursday AM's weigh in. I agree that it could be soreness and it will catch up eventually. Thanks for your input!! Going to keep with regular CICO for now. Went in and tweaked my calories AGAIN, so we shall see how it all pans out.
Can't imagine how continuously eating at a deficit and exercising five days a week is NOT going to make me lose weight. Going to try zig-zagging calories as well, to try and get my metabolism firing better.
See you guys soon.0 -
Sitting at 43 hours on my fast right now...finishing at under 700 cals and 8 net carbs. About to head out to eat...lots.
I think Monday will show something different Meghan...
Y'all have a good weekend!2 -
I’m exhausted and cannot sleep! Husbands surgery went very well, one nights hospital stay and now he’s already home and walking (with walker)! Whew!
So do I have this right... inflammation from exercise equals water weight gain? I never would of thought about it! Hmmm.
I would check your scale batteries! With all your diligence of exercise and healthy meals Meghan, you should be seeing the scale still drop! I agree with Orlcam you should see a change come Monday!
Well good for the Saints and the whole state... I have read he’s a hero to Louisiana! He’ll be a tough act to follow once he retires! There’s a lot of hockey on tv in my house! But ever since we got this ridiculously large tv my husband has decided to watch not only CFL but NFL as well! ....*sigh
I had a half a glass of red wine tonight.... darn dark green bottles... you can’t tell how much is left and I was hoping there was more left in the bottle than that! I haven’t eaten too well this whole week although last night I just had California rolls and tonight’s salad I threw in some chick peas, feta and a slice of chicken. I can’t imagine doing a fast of no food! I could do broth & light veg soups and drink almond milk, but full on fast? I think that’s why 5:2 appealed to me.
Hope everyone enjoys a great weekend!1 -
Hi all!
Thanks again for your nice comments.
Yes. I am definitely feeling swollen and sore. Did weights yesterday too.
Got a nice compliment last night from a friend. She noticed I had lost weight even though I have seen her once a month or so lately. Told her I haven't lost much on the scale... So maybe it is muscle that's building because I am definitely much leaner.
Hope you are having a great weekend!
See you all soon.2 -
So glad someone noticed your shape Meghan... it’s not really about the scale, right? You must look amazing! Keep up your workouts... as I didn’t, and no you can see the difference!!
Sitting here wishing I was having about 4 fluffy pancakes... (although I have not had pancakes in about 2-3 years... but I get cravings for them, or maybe it’s the syrup) anyhow, I’m enjoying 55 grams of fresh spinach which is a lot, 2 eggs, a little leftover avo and a swirl of sriracha! So I’m doing good... see my0 -
^^^^^^. Whoops

What are you doing Mama? ...as far as type of diet/eating? There are some ways to have pancakes....waffles always seem better to me because I prefer to cook them crispy which helps hide the fact that I'm using "lesser" flours.

Good question Orlcam! Good question indeed. I know I can “fit them in”......allow for those calories, but I do enough damage throughout the day, so I’ll wish and think of them instead. So maybe if I allow myself the treat I wouldn’t cheat so often?? That makes sense, but I cheat on candy not food. I’ll get organized!!! It’s warm weather coming... suns out guns out!! So I better pick up my big girl pants and stop procrastinating!0

Hello everybody. Finally catching up after my cold. Still have a bit of congestion but over all feeling better. Didn't eat very well last week. Something about taking it out on myself when I am miserable. And then there is the comfort aspect af food. Funny how easy it is for me to believe that I can eat what I want ant it won't make a difference on the scale. Anyway, I am back on track, determined to treat my body and myself better.2
