One month into this

Hi, I'm 45 and started this a month ago after coming home from vacation and not liking any of the pictures of me. I have let myself go over the past 5 years and decided to take control again.
I've found that logging all my food has really been an eye opener to what I have been eating that really added up. On days that I felt like I didn't eat a lot, I may have downed 4000 calories of junk. It is a real pain to log everything and I'm trying not to cheat or skip logging...having the app on my phone is a godsend.
I'm starting to get into a rut with what I'm eating (chicken breasts and salad are getting old!) and missing my comfort foods (pizza especially), but my clothes are fitting better and that is a real motivator to keep going and change my daily staples.
I'd welcome any 40's friends for a little peer pressure and motivation.

Sounds like you definitely have made a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, congratulations. I'm 43 and started my health/fitness journey 3 years ago, and have made huge progress. I worked out very hard for the first two years but didn't really lose much more than 15-20 pounds and plateaued. I still work out vigorously (because I love it), but it was only when I started taking my food seriously that I made real gains in achieving goals and creating a healthy lifestyle. I might be harder in your 40s, but it certainly achievable. Lots of us on here making great progress, looking and feeling great! You can add me, my journals are open.0

My hubby and I make a healthy at home pizza - and you can too! Decide on any food that you would eat and make it better for you- lower fat, lower calories - etc. Turkey pepperoni -low fat or fat free cheese, loaded veggies you like, etc..... We even did a low calorie "frito pie"...In Texas that is a corn chip, chili and cheese pie.
Just think and DO
make healthier options - You won't STICK with your new life if you hate it! And always MOVE - walk, swim, jog, baseball, tennis, etc........within your fitness level.0 -
Do you use any special pizza dough? Part of my new aversion to pizza is all of the calories from the dough. Since I started this, I realized that most bread doesn't seem worth the calories to me.0

Shop for different ones / types that you like. I think the one we decided on was the refrigerated dough kind...in by the biscuits. Then you have to roll it out with a rolling pin - (or a can or something) to flatten and make it the shape of your pizza pan. Or square if you prefer. Different types have different calories/ fat, etc. But it will get you your pizza and keep you from binging too too much!
Good luck to you! http://www.pillsbury.com/products/pizza-crust0 -

I really think people have trouble realizing they truly can eat ANY type of food they want if they just track it and stay within the goal. Did you know that 2 slices of thin crust pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut is only 500 calories? Their veggie lovers is only 440 for 2 slices & chicken supreme is just 460 for 2 slices.
So, have your pizza on a good exercise day and enjoy it!
I'm averaging about 450 calories burned on my exercise days. I look at it like buying on credit vs buying with cash. Exercise is what I use to pay for fun things I want to eat and the added benefit is that beautiful hamstring I found last night while shaving my legs.
Eat up, and IIFIYMEI0
