Keto big loss & regain--is this typical?

Hi! I started Keto exactly a month ago with two goals--one was to lose 10 lbs, and the other was to go on a plan that would kill my cravings for nibbles and be somewhat easy to follow when traveling for work, which I do often. I love the food I am eating and love that it's not hard at all for me to stay within 1300-1400 calories a day. I love that the part of my brain that craves oatmeal cookies has just been shut down, and that I don't think about food when I'm not actually hungry.

As for the weight loss--at first it was amazing. I lost 5 lbs in the first week. That has never happened, when giving birth was not involved. Not on South Beach, which I did about 12 years ago, and certainly never on any of the more carb-heavy/low fat plans like WW I have done since then.

Then I lost another 1 pound, then 1.5...SO close to my goal weight and not even a month had passed! It felt too good to be true! Meanwhile, this week (I weigh once a week), I was sure I'd have even more lost. My clothes fit great, my bras are too big. But NOPE. Gained 1.3 lbs back.

Now I know from reading blogs and stalking on here that this is probably due to my monthly visitor (the worst I've had in years) but I guess I'd still like to know if there's some sort of science behind the giant losses & some regain? Also want to know if I need to CHANGE anything to keep the losses going. I'm doing 20 or fewer net carbs a day. My diary is open. I don't think I could do a fast at this point. I'm already very active.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I am asking the same question everyone asks!

You lose weight differently on keto.

I’ve gained weight. About 10 pounds from my goal weight and I just don’t think I’m going to get there but I keep losing fat so I’m ok with that.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm sitting here in baggy jeans so I know something must be working and I will keep on keeping on!

They say that women should really look for trends scale-wise over months and not weeks, due to the wrench hormonal fiddlefaddle throws into the works.

Keep tracking and doing the thing and see where you are this time next month. It's water. You said your clothes fit better and bras are too big. There's your evidence. That's where you look when water weight nonsense masks scale loss.

Happy update: lost the pound from last week plus another one! Total of 8.5 lbs gone since starting keto mid Feb, and 2.5 to goal. Woot!

I gain after every loss. I’ll lose 2lbs. Gain 3 and hold there for a couple of weeks. Then when my body stops freaking out and adjusts it goes down again. So every time I post a1-2 lb loss, it’s more like a 5lb struggle. All this with no monthly visitor. It’s just how I roll. Slow. Glad to hear you are mov g in the right direction again

I also gain after every loss, but usually not as much. Lose 3, gain 2. Lose 2, gain 1. Over the long haul it adds up. I also hold anywhere from 3-5lbs before/during my cycle, and then the weight disappears when it's over.
