Amen...
Happy to hear that your cold has gotten better @jknight001
Saw on last week's thread that @mamainthekitchen was dreaming of pancakes and happen to come across this recipe! I thought it sounded yummy. I have seen the other recipes like this but they have banana in them. This one doesn't. It will depend on what protein powder you use in order to get an accurate calorie count. The one the author is using makes it 48 calories a pancake. Not bad... I may have to try them too!

Not much else happening here. Hope you guys have a good week and I'll check back in again soon.0 -
Ah thanks meg! What an unusual twist to pancakes! Unfortunately I like those extra fluffy ones!!! Ha!
No time for extra walk today again... weather has been lovely here and I missed my opportunity since my dog found a beauty of a ditch today and came out of it covered in mud!!! Not a care in the world! Spent the rest of afternoon cleaning up so gave up on my extra walk!
Dinner was at tempeh and salad again... very filling protein! Hubs had spaghetti! I admire those who have help from their spouses!1 -
Anytime @mamainthekitchen and I hear you. Let me know if you try them.
Ooh I need to try that tempeh. On top of salad it sounds awesome!
I am rolling along here. Had a good workout last night doing strength training and a quick ride on the bike after. Also did abs. Tonight I will do a walk on the treadmill.
Hard to believe that our vacation to the Caribbean is about two months away. Flying by fast!
Spring is here! Though, someone forgot to tell Mother Nature as snow is coming tomorrow for us! Boo... Going to keep eating clean and hope for the best this week. I will weigh in officially on Friday AM. I am pretty sure we won't be able to get to the gym Wednesday due to the weather... Could be six inches or more. Sigh... Hope the weather is good where you guys are.
Chat with you all soon!1 -
Oh Meghan your weather!!! Yikes! Good thing you’ve got a wonderful vacation to look forward to!!!!
^^I love anything over salad. And I’m really liking mixing my greens lately... garden plus spring mix, then I add the usual, cuke, red onion, grape tomatoes and also add 1/2 oz or so of crumbled feta then top with spicy chicken or that spicy tempeh or hard boiled egg... or left over steak... even chick peas if I have no other protein. Today I’m bbqing sockeye salmon and serving over a bed of spinach with asparagus and maybe a cucumber salad with avo, red onion & squeeze of lime! Yum! ... I’ll also be making new potatoes for others here, but I probs won’t have any... I’d rather have more salad.
Who is fasting today???
I’ve already had some mini eggs...argh! (I have the cutest little Easter dishes and they wouldn’t look right if they were empty!!)But if I don’t have anymore and none tonight I could call it a ‘pretty decent eating day’... close to a fast day! And close is real good in my world!! Off to vacuum the house before I make dinner...
Have a good day people0 -
Glad you'r feeling better @jknight001 !
No woosh yet huh @Meghan509 ?
No fast for me yet this week @mamainthekitchen . Hope to get at least one in before Sunday.
Just a quick visit...have a good week.0 -
Mamainthekitchen i make scotch pancakes/american pancakes and reduce sugar using sweetner or half spoon graulated. I can get them down to 74cals delicious and fluffy.b
Look up bbc good food panackes searching scotch pancakes the picture is panacakes with dusting o icing sugar and peaches i think. Follow receipe with and adjust sugar to half of sweetner. That's how i do lemon drizzle too cut butter to half fat marg and sweetner makes 143 a thick slice. My kids love both!2 -
Hi guys!
@orlcam I will know for sure tomorrow about that whoosh! I usually weigh on Thursday AM to see how I am lookin' for my "big" Friday weigh in. I do feel pretty good and my stomach feels a little smaller. My calves feel better too, and are less sore!
To be honest, I have a love / hate relationship with the scale. So I tend to hop on less. If I see I am higher that I think I should be, it really messes with my head.
Now I know that I really should have been measuring all along so I can see my progess better... Honestly the more I think about the last few months, I do think I have been gaining muscle and that is why I have been seeing slow losses. I guess this is the only way to really wrap my head around the fact that I have gotten down to a size 8 (US) with minimal loss on the scale and people have been noticing more. The last week and a half of doing a regular low calorie plan each day, I have noticed that there were days I had gotten lazy and I was not logging and weighing every single little thing. So to be fair to 5:2, I had gotten a little lax. This is all a learning experience! We are only human. All I can do is keep plugging along and doing the right thing and these last 20 or so pounds will come off
Yup, crazy weather going on here! We are due for six to twelve inches of snow today so I home. Our gym is closing early today, so no workouts for us... The good thing is we went on Saturday (sometimes we don't) so we will have a good five days of exercise in after Thursday when we are planning to get back there.
Hope you guys are good! Those pancakes sound delish!
See you all soon.2 -
Oh! Sjgold just lived looking at the photos of pancakes from that bbc website... I’ll be back there to look at more goodies! Thanks! I also make a scotch pancake!! Actually reading that in your post made me smile because my dear grandmother (loved her... lived to be 100!) passed 5 years ago now, made what she called scotch pancakes, a recipe from her mother! But you serve them smaller (2 in dia) serve them with butter and jam at tea time!! They’re made with icing sugar and bring back all kinds of wonderful memories and I’m afraid no substitution are allowed with that type of history! Ha! But more to your point, yes I think you could alter to get the calories down and if you mind the amount of syrup you pour on top... you could at least count them in and have low cal dinner... all in a days balance. My mother never liked syrup and she sprinkled a little plain white sugar on top of her pancakes which is probably less calories than what I do which is use half a bottle to drown them... even my kids said I only ate pancakes to soak up the syrup!
Gotta run... I finished yesterday at 975 cals! Not bad for a low day... I check back later1 -
I know what you mean about logging or not as the case may be as we had a few days without and then when i went back through putting everything i could remember it made me think how i my eating was less mindful. I'm doung good with the healthy meals but i feel the need for treats factored into everyday whereas i wouldn't have had a treat everyday before dieting but my meals were bigger. Now it helps to have mini rewards. It is hard though i went physically shopping today (usually do an online grocery order) for new products to try which was great but it is such a struggle when there are so many tempting treats available. There is a weird relationship with food that relaxes me, comforts and i need to change that but not figured out how yet! I am trying to susitute with an action that is not such a short sense of satisfaction.1

@sjgold123 that connection with food means you're human...that is part of our evolution. It has to do with feeling safe around large numbers of people and sitting around a camp fire at night when the day's hunting/gathering was done. It's one of the reasons why we eat when we are lonely, stressed, etc. You're definitely not alone....we're all with you. It's tough to change millions of years of evolution in a few hundred years, much less one's own lifetime. The good news is that there are so many things out there now that I never thought about until I had to get creative with keto. Since I quit sugar, when I eat things like blackberries and strawberries...oh man, I can't describe it...more intense than ever I remember. But, there are a lot of dark chocolate options and other types of sweets. Based on recent studies and the growing trends, the safe sweeteners (that do not raise insulin levels) are stevia, erythritol, and monk fruit...each has a purpose. Sorbitol and maltitol, which both happen to be in my favorite chewing gum, are the worst...one of them, can't remember which, caused a reaction worse than sugar in some cases. We're just so adapted to sugar that it's hard to switch over and be 100% satisfied... if those birthday cakes we had every year of our lives (when people honor us and show a lot of love) were made from monk fruit and whole grains, then that's what we would crave. Maybe
Was able to get a fast in...sitting at under 250 cals on 44.5 hours. Going to push it to a full 48 and see how I feel.0 -
When I type stuff it sounds OK coming out of my head, but then I go back and read it and it feels like I'm mansplaining...I think I'm paranoid about being the only guy active in the group.1
-
Well the scale, inspite of how mean it can be, decided to give me a early birthday present. I had set a goal last month 145 lbs by my birthday, April 5. Last week I was really sick and just couldn't muster the energy to log, exercise, or even be disciplined about what I ate. I didn't even weigh last week because I knew it would be more bad news (the week before I had gained a bit). Thankfully, this week able to course correct and get back on track with 5:2. Considering the rough go I had the paat couple of weeks, I was shocked and very thankful to see 144.8 on the scale! Applause to you all. You keep me going.2
-
Great going jknight! Even though you were unwell... the scale showed you the numbers... don’t forget to take measurements! And I hope you’re feeling better! Is your son on spring break?
Hahaha Orlcam! “Mansplaining”!!! Oh gosh... too funny! I think I can speak for all us gals here; we love that you’ve returned to contributing to our little group! Wish more would!! So mansplain away!!!! Also, how on earth did you QUIT sugar??
Meghan hope the snow has been kind at your end of the continent! Our tulips are sprouting but we’re due for rain!
The husband wanted a big pot of stew made yesterday... so that and a crusty bun was dinner last night, it was good to have some comfort food on a rainy night. I’m planning to have a lighter day today and already bought some puréed squash soup for 100 cals per 250 mls... a tad high on the sodium, but convenience rules! About to have some cottage cheese & tomatoes for lunch! Going to take the hubs outside for a walk outdoors today... he’s doing so well! A little pain still, but it’s only been 8 days!
Happy Friday people!!!

@jknight001 Congratulations! Feeling good and goal met, sounds like things are going your way.
@mamainthekitchen Thanks, that makes me feel better. As for sugar...I've done it before, but not to this extreme. Having those sweeteners I've mentioned helps...there are even syrups and extracts (expensive) I use for making ice cream and smoothie concoctions that weren't available a few years ago. I have to mention Lily's Dark Chocolate Premium Baking Chips...the star of my daughter and I's mint chocolate chip ice cream...better than any store bought. All that and the fear factor...I've known for a long time that I should be do something; in my mind I had gone diabetic in late December/early January, but I'm 99% sure I no longer am. I'll find out for sure in the fall when my wife and I get our annual check-ups. I'm looking to lose another 45 lbs by then.
Got to 50+ hours last night on my fast and then hit a sizable portion of keto lasagna that I made. It took about 4 hours to make and I wasn't light-headed like I was at the end of my last extended fast. I remember this last time I got serious about fasting...it took about a month for my body (and head) to get into a groove. Lot's of energy at the end of this one and my daughter said I wasn't "hangry" this time. I find it easier to do these long fasts than to do 2 shorter ones...I'm going to try to bump it to 72 hours here soon. Seems a little daunting at the moment.
Have a good weekend everyone.0 -
Just in case you all forgot what I looked like, here is a pic of me after my weigh-in.
@sjgold123 - I so know what you mean!!! My husband is saying I am always on my tablet. It isn't because I am doing emails or checking Facebook, it is because I have to log EVERYTHING! If I don't it doesn't take long for me to go astray. My husband is just naturally thin. He doesn't really understand that I have no natural sense when it comes to what to eat and even worse, how much. Never was much of a drinker and not at all into drugs. I have never drunk a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine all by myself. However, lest you think I am a saint, I could eat a whole box of cookies followed by a couple of candy bars and have this internal struggle as to whether that was good for me or not. CRAZY! And while I am venting, what really makes me mad is that we have no choice but to eat on a regular basis. So multiple times a day we have to decide what we are going to eat and how much. All that to say, I feel your pain.
@meghan509 - Hope you are making it through the storm. I heard it was not as bad as the last one, although, if the full force hits your block, then the generalization don't matter much.
@mamainthekitchen - Glad your man is doing well. Has he started physical therapy yet? I am betting in six months you both will be so glad you did this. New knee, no pain!
@orlcam - 50 hour fast? You were never one for small measures. You really should consider running marathons. I think you would be quite good at it. I wanted to ask you about stevia. I have found stevia to be quite an ambivalent sweetener. I have had it in my coffee and it was decent, at least I didn't want to spit it out. And then there was Zevia, the stevia sweetened cola. I tried that a couple of years ago and thought it was worse than Tab. I have read that stevia sweetness depends on the plant they get the leaves from. Have you found a stevia that is consistently good? Is stevia just the pure leaf or do they add anything to it or do any chemical magic on it? It seems so many artificial sweeteners are labeled as all-natural until people who use it consistently grow a third eye. Then the makers finally admit to the crap they have added to it and say it may cause people to grow a third eye. Can you bake/cook with it?
Did exchange a short message with @ryenday. She is up to her neck in the stuff of life. Hopes to check in with us all soon.
Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Well, hello! I am back! Y'all wouldn't believe the last two weeks! Crazy times! Nothing bad, just go, go, go and eat, eat, eat. Today I am back to tracking, will fast next week. Not sure if I am brave enough to get on the scale tomorrow morning. I read through everyone's posts. I don't have tome to comment, I have homework to do, but I am thinking about all of you and I pray for all of us. Have a great weekend!0
-
@KateNkognito - Glad you are back and glad all your busy was good. And thank you for your prayers I cherish them - from your lips to God's ear.1

Bahaha.... jknight , the dancing lady is hilarious!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for that!2
-
Glad too see all of the conversation...
@jknight001 funny stuff. Congratulations again on the great run. I have to agree with some of your points on Stevia. The stuff I bought 3 years ago was supposedly pure and in bulk...and I'm maybe 1/2 way through it. The brand is still highly rated on Amazon, even with over 1.6k in reviews. Doesn't necessarily mean anything, but at least we'll all become "affected" together. Zevia...ack, yes...some of them are terrible; almost every flavor has this mint/metallic aftertaste. Best ones are grape and strawberry. Orange must be good too, because they're always sold out when we go. I use stevia mostly in tea and in ice cream. I'll use it in cooking, but mostly at the end when the heat is shut off. Erythritol comes in crystallized and powdered form...this has more of a sugary feel (better for baking), but it melts in the mouth quickly and leaves a slightly oily feel...in my opinion. I want to try pure monk fruit, but it's expensive and ratings/support are lacking.
Happy Monday everyone.1 -
@orlcam Thanks for your take on stevia. It confirms what I thought about the product. I guess their are no perfect sweeteners out there yet. Maybe that is a good thing? It is hard for me to resist sweet things. How much harder would it be if it was sweet and calorie-free?0
