Diet Coke

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about a year ago. I am on Metformin 500mg two times a day and have reduced my carbohydrates sharply with very little change in my blood sugar numbers. I was drinking what amounts to 4 gallons of diet coke everyday. I quit cold turkey two weeks ago and I cannot get a blood glucose reading above 100 with metformin. I am shocked by the drastic change. Any insights?

Curious - I have never seen any impact from diet drinks. I have also never had that much. I don't think I have had more than a fast food large Diet Coke in a day. There is an advantage to checking to figure out the reactions your body has.

4 gallons a day of any kind of fluid seems excessive, if not potentially toxic (water intoxication). I don't know if hyperglycemia is a symptom of water intoxication.

I'm assuming now you've replaced Diet Coke with other fluids, but you're not drinking the same amount of total fluids everyday as before?

Also, you may not be consuming the same amount of caffeine as before.
