Fast day for me. Looking forward to the quiet it brings. Can't believe April is upon us already! Have a good day, all.1

Good morning everybody!
Sorry for not checking in lately. Where the heck did the time go??
Caught up on last week's posts and first things first... WOO HOO congratulations on reaching your goal @jknight001
The snow storm that was supposed to happen, sort of happened! We were supposed to get a heck of a lot of snow last Wednesday (up to a foot)! So we worked from home, didn't go to the office, stayed in, gym was closed, etc. Well the snow ended up going more east, to Long Island, NY / the ocean and pretty much skipped over us! We only had a few inches total. Bummer! LOL
Been quiet for me on the scale. Nope, no loss or woosh yet! But, I am going to keep doing what I am doing. I am still positive it is muscle that has been growing and skewing scale results. Time of month is also halting things I am sure. Friday AM will be my next weigh in. Not doing 5:2 for the moment still, but just counting calories, exercising, and eating clean. Been eating anywhere from 1200 to 1700 a day. Feeling good, which is nice!
Glad to hear @ryenday is okay and is planning to check in soon. Sending hugs.
Speak to you all soon! Here's to a good week of fasts and eating clean! We got this!1 -
Hi everyone!
I just realized Easter Sunday is on April fools day!! Do you suppose if I serve hot dogs & beans for dinner instead of turkey dinner I could get away with it???
I’m going to fast today too, jknight so I’m wondering what you’re going to have?! I just had a bran muffin... which may have not been the best idea, but it was warm & fresh made by me so I had it! I’ll have to calculate the cals now then I’m planning my squash soup for dinner at 100 cals per 250 mls. I’ll be able to do my own thing for dinner as I have lots of leftovers for the fam which is key to my success!
Glad the snow was redirected a bit Meghan! Keep up the great work on your new plan!!!
I’ll check back later...
Cheers!1 -
Hello, all! Today was the first real fast day I have had in a long while. It actually feels pretty good!
Yesterday's weigh in was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I reset my starting date in MFP, and I am back on track.
The only down side to fasting today is that I am trying to do homework and I am struggling to stay awake. This is a problem I have on fast days. That and getting chilly.
I hope everyone that was fasting had a good day! I am very much looking forward to breaking the fast tomorrow morning! Have a great week!!3 -
@mamainthekitchen Probably not much help to you but I keep my fast days simple. Often eating the same thing for breakfast. Today I had peanut butter on a rice cake and a banana for breakfast and plan to have some leftover lamb and veggies for dinner.
@meghan509 - so glad you did not get snowed in. Fun at first but a pain in the end. And loving your "can do" attitude with your WOE. That will get you to your goals. Eventually the muscle mass will take over and keep the scale from fluctuating as much. I see exercise and muscle mass the balance bar to walking across the tightrope to a lower number on the scale.4 -
@jknight001 I like peanut butter on rice cakes! I remember to buy those rice cakes!! I am liking oatmeal lately!
I am so proud... finishing my day @ 553 cals tonight! I didn’t have that soup... I had garden salad with the “Indonesian tempeh” heated & chopped on top. The family says it looks gross... but it’s spicy and filling and an excellent protein source with low sodium... so I say it’s a great addition to a salad!
NO CANDY today!!!!!! Soooo proud, I bet you all can see a brightness on the horizon... yup, that’s my halo!!
3 -
Oooh, I forgot... congrats to you too kate!!! I’m seeing your halo!!!
It feels good to be successful, why don’t I do this more often.....?????1 -
Hi all just checking in, busy planning our easter breaj away in our caravan but that also provides the challenge of not going into holiday treat mode. I always buy biscuits, croissants, crisps, bacon so i'm actually planning healthy meals to stick to with the odd treat here and there hopefully within calorie limit but won't be attempting to fast. This is a tough habit to change! We are taking our bikes so hopefully that will help too!2
-
Good morning all!
Congrats on your fast @KateNkognito! You can do it! Congrats to you too, @mamainthekitchen! Love to see people getting back on track!
Thanks for the nice posts. You all encourage me and keep me going, even when the scale is a pain in the ___. LOL Yesterday, I stuck to my plan and came in at around 1200ish. Plus I exercised, so that's nice. Today it may be a 1300 type of day. Anywhere at 1500 or under is my goal for now.
Today we made some yummy protein shakes for breakfast with a scoop of Vanilla Rice Protein, a cup of almond milk, half a banana, and a cup of blueberries. They are pretty low calorie and I am still feeling nice and full!
Yesterday I got my strength training session in at the gym. Tonight will be cardio. Yes, I think the scale will eventually figure out what's happening and will I revert to losing again. Just taking some time. What I have to remember is the weight didn't come on overnight, so it certainly won't come off overnight. Patience...
See you guys soon. Have a great day!3 -
Hi all... okay, I've just finally tried my 'bought' squash soup... the one I've been saying is 100 cals per 250mls, I've been so looking forward to trying it because the picture on the carton looks sooooo delicous!! Well now I'm trying to decide whether it's ok to dump in down the sink or I should flush in the toilet!! oh, very gross!!!! so disappointed! omg... can't even tolerate it one bit! Now what am I to have??? light salmon creamcheese on a multigrain rye crisp I think...
Meghan, I'm wondering what the heck vanilla rice protein is??? there is no protein in rice...? Although that shake sounds yummy for sure!
Well, that's it for now.... I'll try not to let this derail me, as I was hoping for a strick 1200 cal day today and then fast again tomorrow with the 500ish.
have a good day!3 -
Mama: ouch...had that happen a few times.
Just a quick checkin...sitting at about 28 hours on 220 cals or so, going to turn this into an extended fast, maybe 44 hours. This may be the only one I get in this week.
Sunday...it has been so decreed...no cals will be counted! only carbs...boiled crawfish and shrimp, unlimited...oh the humanity!
Everyone have a good holiday...if I don't make it back alive...tell my wife I love her...and that someone else is going to have to take out the trash.5 -
I'm not a fan of butternut squash either and i rarely need to throw food away!!
Oh gosh orclam hardcore!! Good luck. I have my second low day under my belt and scales are coming down. I've lost 21lbs (1.5 stone) since i started 5:2 in january. I'm 5llbs away from goal but that is a pre -children weight so happy so would like to get close and give a few pounds fluctuation for maintenance. Soon to be easter and need to limit chocolate intake...not easy but feeling strong.2 -
Hi guys!
@mamainthekitchen good question. LOL! I believe it is organic protein powder made from brown rice! This container that we have is vanilla flavored and was a "freebie" from my guy's parents. His Mom had bought it for his brother when he was in town and then after he left she asked us if we wanted it. I am not sure where she bought it.
Maybe like a Vitamin Shoppe store or something similar. Since it is pretty much empty it will be replaced with a new one I just bought on Amazon. Link below. Hopefully it comes through as it looks really ugly!
Sorry about the store bought soup. Yuck! Hope you have something else nice that you can replace it with.

@orlcam You are too funny! LOLOL Have a great Easter!
@sjgold123 congrats on your loss! That is great progress for only three to four months!
Not too mugh going on with me. Had a nice cardio session last night on the treadmill. Been increasing my speed and the incline to make sure I am building up a good sweat on cardio days. Definitely have gotten much healthier and in better shape, since I started this journey.
Hope you all have a nice one and see you soon!3 -
OK, I know I posted something yesterday. Who everr does the website and the app for MFP should be replaced. So many of my posts get eaten. Really, MFP needs to find a new WOE besides my posts.
Well, my cold came back as bronchitis. Had a mild fever yesterday. Feeling better today. Spring break is next week. I want to be well, pleeeeeze!
@sjgold123 - Enjoy your Spring Break with your family. Fasting and 5:2 will still be here when you get back. Kudos to you for making some healthy meals. It will make your caravan all the more enjoyable if you have some meals that can really fuel your body in the right way.
@mamainthekitchen - You made it a day without candy! Being a sugar addict myself, I know what a milestone this is. They should call sugar by it's real name - crack cocaine. Keep going girl. You can do it. I can see your halo from here. You will see the benefit of it in how your skin looks and how you feel when you get off of it. In regards to your soup, your first warning should have been the fact that squash was in the name. That is my clue to not walk but run!
@KateNkognito - So glad you are back on track and posting with us. Missed you!
@meghan509 - Glad your new WOE is going well and secretly glad you are still hangin' with us cranky fasters. Hopefully your muscles will kick in soon and give you your woosh as they start to need your fat more than you do.
@orlcam - Have a good Easter! Enjoy your family and your mini-break from counting. And please do your best to make it back alive. It is hard to find a good trash man.

Y'all are hysterical!
I won't be fasting tomorrow since it is snack day at work, but I WILL fast on Friday.
Easter shouldn't be too bad, I think we are going to my in-laws... my mother-in-law can't cook.
Have a great rest of the week and happy fasting!1 -
Argh just popped on to scream (ok no big deal but feel robbed) but the peanut butter i have used from this weeks store visit was twice the calories as from my usual. So i applied it to my lo-dough ate it warmed then entered it and i could have had a bloody chocolate bar...i picked it as a treat snack as usually it's under 60 cals but it sent me over my daily allowance. I feel cheated!! Oh well at least i know before i devoured the whole thing!2
-
@sjgold123 re: peanut butter, well at least now you know! And good for you checking labels!! Congrats on your successful loss so far!! Really, good job!!!
@KateNkognito ... you’re funny.... I wasn’t expecting your post to go in that direction!!! bahaha
Thanks for your vote if confidence jknight!! Those mini eggs ALL have my name on them!! It’ll be a tough long weekend! I’ll try to focus on looking through my food diary years ago when I was so determined!! That should help! I’m a grown up and should be able to get through Easter without eating all the chocolate eggs!!!! Sigh..,.
Thanks for the “protein” link Meghan... I still have a hard time understanding plant protein..? I ‘m just not up to date on the knowledge of where it comes from and how it’s processed and too lazy to investigate just now, but it’s certainly an interesting topic! I wonder what on earth do they have to do to get protein out of a kernel of brown rice??
Enjoy your feast Orlcam!!
Well, it’s late to bed tonight... am exhausted but I'm programming my iPhone...a little trick for tomorrow... I plan to use my reminder app to display I’m fasting tomorrow, so every time I open my phone to see the time or whatever I’ll be seeing a reminder to fast! I’ll let you know how it worked for me... a little hack I read about!
Cheers and GOODNIGHT!

Love mini eggs...well most chocolate actually. I've just had a bueno bar after feeling cheated yesterday. My husband has swayed off track and it's not helping my wilpower although i'm loosing and he isn't so he he. Thank you mamainthekitchen need to be looking at maintanence amounts soon...confused by that as i suppose it may take trial and error to get right.
Haha kate that's one way to stay on track with awful cooking!?
Good luck to all as the weekend approaches...one thing o know is i can not survive the weekend with a low day factored into it x1 -
Howdy all..
Love it when this group is lively! Been getting some more recipes ready for next week. I really love my soup for lunch two days a week. Makes you eat slower and it just feels healthier than eating a turkey sandwich every day. LOL
Oooh did somebody say Mini Eggs?! I have a sweet tooth and love my chocolate, so I will be putting on blinders after Sunday when everything will be marked down from Easter and screaming at me as I walk by.
Thanks @jknight001 LOL @ cranky fasters. You all have a special place in my heart.
Nothing much happening here. Our office is not closed for the Good Friday holiday, so I am hoping they take pity on me and at least let us leave early! But that's okay, it will be quiet with some of our other sites closed tomorrow.
Happy to report that the weather has been improving here. Been in the upper 40's and 50's so I am hoping *fingers crossed* that the snow we had last week was our last one of the season. I am soooo ready for warm weather!
Have a good one everybody!2 -
Just wanted to let you all know MFP has had a data breach. Good idea to change your password.2

Hello everyone! I'm not really new to the group, but it's been so very long since I've been around that I doubt anyone remembers me, and you all seem to be new to me too. I lost 30+ pounds on IF several years ago, gained 15 back but in the last year have taken 10 of the regained weight off again, so I'm holding at roughly 25 pounds lost, which I'm really pretty OK with overall, especially since I've developed a raging sweet tooth the last few years. But I still want/need to lose more, so right now I'm just doing a sort of pre-check in as I'm just in the planning stages of getting back to IF. I'm trying to decide whether to do the week or two of protein shakes only in the beginning, as many books advise, or to jump back into the reduced-cal meals right away. I hope to be back here frequently, as I'm sure that during the first few weeks I'll need to talk about it! Has MFP revised it's calorie counter? It was basically such a good feature, but on fast days it kept scolding me about not eating enough!
BTW, @mamainthekitchen I came to love oatmeal myself when I did IF before. The beauty of it was that it stayed with me a long time, so I could stave off hunger well into mid-afternoon after an oatmeal breakfast. It's 140 cals, but well worth the expenditure.0 -
Welcome back @andreada98507! Glad you will be rejoining us. Feel free to post whatever questions you would like. We have moved to using a weekly thread to keep in touch with each other but feel free to start new discussions if you like that better. Either way will work. Regarding the calorie counter, AFAIK, it still lectures you if you try to close your day out with too few calories. I don't close out my diary any more. It has saved me a lot of stress.0

The group's really kickin' now...happy to see it. Spring is in the air...getting everyone pumped up.
Mini eggs are ok...I'd have to make them myself. Lots of great chocolate and baking recipes out there now using erythritol. (ooh, just found a keto recipe for lava cake.)
Here's a good article for those looking for more info on erythritol...could this finally be the sweetener that takes on cane sugar?
An excerpt:1. It’s heat stable.
That means that you can add it to all your favorite baked goods.
2. It’s calorie-free and doesn’t impact blood sugar.
These words are so sweet they’re worth repeating. According to researchers at the European Commission, erythritol does not impact blood sugar.
3. It’s safe.
Studies have shown that erythritol is safe and it’s generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA.
4. It’s not overly sweet.
Even before we realized that artificial sweeteners were carcinogenic, back in 1995 when you were sipping on Diet Coke, you likely puckered at the flavor. That’s because it tasted too sweet. Thankfully, this sugar substitute is much less sweet and therefore, tastes realistic.
5. It does not cause tooth decay.
Unlike sugar, you don’t have to worry about damaging your teeth.
OK my ladies...get your bonnets on...enjoy the holiday...come back Monday refreshed and ready to work!

I tried to change the banner for spring...unfortunately they seem to have locked the altering of groups. It probably has something to do with the data breach.
I'll put it here so you can enjoy it before the weekend.
Darn...it doesn't appear that we can even upload images now. ...I'll try to link it from another website...
OK, it worked...enjoy your Friday.

Thanks for the warm welcome, @jknight001 ! Thanks also for the tip about not closing out the diary. I may try that myself. Here's a good article for those looking for more info on erythritol...could this finally be the sweetener that takes on cane sugar?

Hi guys! Happy Friday and a Good Friday it is.
Still rolling along here, doing my thing. Not much new to report. Looking forward to the weekend. It is finally acting like spring today! I likey...
Loving the new pic @orlcam so cute! Thanks for the info on erythritol - I like what I am reading!
Welcome @andreada98507 so glad you are rejoining our little group. I am interested in that erythritol brand you mentioned. We don't have Safeway here on the east coast, but bet my local Whole Foods would have it. They are the organic authority!
I am normally not a huge fan of stevia because of that bitter taste. I have using coconut palm sugar from Trader Joe's in my coffee for the last few years. I love it. I use a small flat spoonful for the most part, otherwise sugar tastes too sweet to me. My taste buds have changed a lot. Years ago I used to use TWO packets of Splenda in my coffee. OMG just the thought of that makes me want to barf. LOL
Everybody be well. Summer is almost here (in North America)! Chat with you all soon.1 -
Hello all! Did my weigh-in today and down .8 lbs. Slow and steady does it.
In regards to erythritol, I was reading my Allrecipes magazine today and saw Pyure advertised. It is a granulated combination of stevia and erythritol. They say you can bake with it. Forgive me if you all knew about this already. I know @orlcam said erythritol was FDA approved but I don't really trust the FDA. Would love to hear outside sources that have done long term studies on the stuff say it is ok. To much science influenced by politics out there.
Hope to get rid of my cough soon. A woman the other day jokingly said,"I hear that you have the 7 week cough I had". That pretty much sums it up.0 -
Well, happy Good Friday people!
Welcome @andreada98507 ! I don’t close my diary out either but I also know some people manually add 700 cals under mfp recipe index called intermittent fasting.... just like if you type in cucumber... instead type in IF to add 700 cals and that’ll give you 1200 cals so mfp doesn’t scold you. Also, glad you checked out our favorites list!! I should review those again too!! I also like adding 1/4 tsp of chia seeds and 1/2 tsp hemp seeds to my oatmeal... “they” say those are good for you!!
Interesting sugar substitute articles Orlcam! I don’t use one myself... but maybe I should!!
Grande Nachos for dinner tonight for the fam... This includes taco hamburger meat, olives and fresh jalepanos etc. I’ll have lettuce cups instead of the tortilla chips. Hopefully the rest of the weekend will keep me busy and away from the mini eggs as I’m cooking a turkey!!
Off to look for a bonnet!!!!

Weeeeellll, I forgot to fast today and I had an entire bag of jelly beans all to myself... except the black ones. Calories saved, right? LOL Also had a lot of leftover pizza. Maybe I will try again tomorrow.
I read about the data breach. Well, I don't use my real name, so not so bad. What are they going to get? My dress size? My unhealthy affinity for snack cakes? Worst part is changing my password. I can't remember a new password! Stupid hackers!! LOL2
