We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for March are:

Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - Calvin2008Brian
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard

Today's Topic: Do you track body measurements, resting heart rate, or any metric other than weight? Have you ever done so? Why or why not?

Alt Topic: You've lost weight? Good for you, but did you ever stop to think about what really happened? The rule of conservation of mass means that weight had to go somewhere, right? Whether you've thought about it before or not, you might find this short article interesting: http://www.businessinsider.com/where-fat-goes-when-you-lose-weight-according-to-scientists-2018-3

Used to have a written list of body measurements but lost it :frowning:
I would have been curious but it’s enough to see waist shrink from 52? to last bought shorts for 34!

The BMI tracked until I got below Obese.

My fasting blood sugar was a daily chore until I was cleared of all T2D Rx meds.

Occasionally check BP at CVS but not often.

So I guess the Metal Monster in the locker room is still the mainstay of tracking the one constant number I track.

The rule is conservation of matter AND energy. And, most of us are more energized since losing a fair amount of weight.

I track daily weight and fasting blood suger. Other than that, I let FitBit do the tracking.

Only numbers I’ve ever looked at are weight and BP. But I only get BP checked at DR. BP has been good since I lost the first 65lbs and became a gym regular.

Tracking other numbers is a complication.

I weigh every morning and the next thing is check my BP. I'm still on BP meds so my doctor has asked me to bring a BP log with me when I see him.

I only track my morning weight. I probably should check my waist measurement monthly but looking at that number has been frustrating in this stage of my life (post menopausal).

I don't, other than via my clothes. In thinking about why, I think it's because early on in my WLJ, I decided I was not going to "make a big deal" about losing weight. I observed many around me becoming seemingly obsessed about it. The more they obsessed on it, the harder it seemed to be. Obviously, I wanted to lose the weight but I opted to make it something I did in the background vs. something I made a focal point of my life.

The change in my clothes' size was my NSV metric for success. As my wardrobe at the time got baggier and baggier, I couldn't deny I was going the right direction. I have not had to upsize since reaching goal in 2015. Doing so would be a definite red flag for me that I was headed the wrong direction. My other NSVs provide further confirmation that I'm working maintenance ok for the time being.

That article is quite interesting and honestly something I'd never really considered!
