Thought I would kick the week off since it is Monday already in some parts of the world. For those who celebrated Easter, hope you had a great day.

Taking the week off from 5:2 because 1) we all need breaks from our work (my personal philosophy) and 2) my son is out of school this week for Spring Break. No fasting, no weighing and measuring. Have been feeling better so I am hoping to get my exercise in. Might be a quiet week because I think others have Spring Break as well?

What ever you are doing today, hope it is a good day!

    Good Morning all!

Life took several turns for the crazy in March, I’m trying to reign it back into a comfortable chaos. I made every effort to keep healthy food and fitness choices through the crazy month.

I continued 5:2 throughout March, but loosened the calorie restrictions to around 700 on my light days. Weight remained pretty steady tho I’m getting wild 10+pound fluctuations for unknown reasons. Maintenance does seem to be a ridiculously low <10,000 calories per week.

I did keep up my exercise except swimming. Ear infection keeping me out of the pool for the time being. Did daily hula hoop sessions (6 times a week >15 minutes. Walked a goodly amount and have done my weights 2-3 times a week. I stopped the HIIT tho, and will add that back in in April. I joined a work step challenge. 350,000 steps in April. If I make it, a local company will donate a pair of good athletic shoes to a children’s charity. I’m determined.

Was lousy at cooking or prepping my light day meals last month. But have been mostly eating steamed frozen veggies in tomato sauce or Raman spice with chicken breast on my light days. High in protein and veggies on those days, but not much variety. Maybe I can put my life back in order enough to make some more soups to freeze.

Some major dental work upcoming on my part (which quite honestly throws me into panic attacks) and kitty needing a lot of vet care right now are not helping me in trying to make life quiet and simple again, but I’m trying to soldier on. Life is rough right now, but not by any standard ‘bad’ so I’m going to try to take it as a win. :).

I’ll try to catch up with everyone and I really hope everyone is doing well.

Today is my light day and it is more chicken, veggies and tomato sauce for me! I’m on antibiotics right now, so if my stomach acts up I will save a 100 or so calories for some greek yogurt.

    Take care all!

    Good morning everybody!

Hope everybody had a nice Passover or Easter (which ever one you celebrate). :) My guy and I had a fun day together yesterday.

Woke up this AM to more snow... Hard to believe that a little one to three inch thing had turned in to more. But, they didn't really close the schools which is strange. I guess the schools are over it too! Probably cleared off a good four inches on the roof of SUV before I headed to work. The roads were a little slippery. My issue was traffic - soooo slow! But, got in safe and hopefully aside from some passing snow showers, this is it!

I am still rolling along and doing my thing. Nope, haven't had much luck with the scale but I am doing what I have to do and in time it will get moving again. I have to look at this as a little bump in the road and I am on the right track. Happy to report that I have bought some more size 8 (US) pants so now I think I have around six pairs. Some of my size 12 (US) work pants had to be tossed in to the donate pile, because they are just too darn big. Inches are coming off and pretty soon pounds will too. I got this! B) Thank you all for your support!

@jknight001 congrats on your losses. Happy to hear you are feeling better. I hope you have a fantastic week with your son! Agree on taking a break from fasting for the week. Will be a good lesson for you as you slowly ease towards maintenance.

@ryenday so good to see you posting. Congrats on maintaining your weight! I have been thinking about you and hoping you are well. Sorry to hear about your life difficulties of late, and I hope you feel better and things get better. Sorry to hear about the dental work. Take some deep breaths. Everything is going to work out, I know it will. Sending you a hug!

Hope everybody else is good! Have been working on this post for a while, so now I am hitting "Post Reply"! LOL Have a great day!

Hey, all! Today was an epic DISASTER! BUT, I made the best of it and turned it into a fast day. Only down side is that fasting makes me sleepy and I still have a mountain of homework to do. Prayers and positive thoughts!
@ryenday I hope the storm clouds pass. You are doing fabulously!
    @jknight001 Enjoy your Spring Break!
@Meghan509 Keep up the good work! Weight loss will come.
Off to get ready to go back to school tomorrow. 33 more days!

Disaster and overeating indeed. Yesterday did NOT turn out to be the light day I had intended. Lol.

I think allergies are kicking my butt, I got off work
Early yesterday (switched shifts with coworker) and went to bed at 6 pm. Didnt get up til 8:30 today and really wish I could just go back to bed. :(. Sinus headache And funny stomach from the antibiotics - so I’m giving myself the day off. Day off exercise-, day off watching what I eat, etc. I have to go to work, but that is all I’m gonna do.

I’ll sleep long again tonight and I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow.

    Enjoy Tuesday everyone!

Today was so busy, I didn't have a chance to eat as much as I would have liked. I am going to take that as a win. Some of my stress was relieved today. I am slowly chipping away at my To Do list that is a mile long. A lot of it is going to wait until this weekend, whether it likes it or not. I am hoping my blood pressure and allergies both calm down.
@ryenday I totally feel your pain in the allergies department! I have woken up two days in a row sick to my stomach from all the drainage! (sorry tmi) I hope you feel better!
@mamainthekitchen Turkey sounds yummy! Could you take a nap for me, too? LOL
Ok, off to go do some homework and get another couple of things checked off the list. :) Happy fasting!

Just checking in. Glad to see all of the posts! Love this group. Enjoying Spring Break. Went to see Coco today with my son. Loved the movie! The art work is beautiful and the story is lovely.

@ryenday - Really admire your resilience. In spite of the stressors of life you just keep going.

@mamainthekitchen - Glad you enjoyed your Easter dinner. I believe it is important to remember that food was meant to be enjoyed. Fortunately, not every day is a holiday. ;)

@KateNkognito - You too are an Energizer Bunny. You just keep going. Hope you do get some time to re-energize this weekend. Glad your light at the end of the tunnel is only months away.

@Meghan509 - Seems like all is good in your part of the world so I will just say "Hi" and so happy for your 8s! Congratulations! All of your hard work is bearing fruit.

    Good morning everybody!

I hope all is well. Not too shabby here.

@KateNkognito congrats on getting back on track and staying focused. I know your life is busy with kids and school and homework. Not easy! High Five! You got this! Sorry about your allergies. Not fun...

@mamainthekitchen glad you made a nice turkey. Yummy! Thanks for the kudos. :)

@ryenday feel better. Allergies stink! My guy suffers with those too, when we get the season change to spring or fall. Right now still rainy and cold here so no allergies yet. Sending a hug.

@jknight001 sounds like you are having a nice week! Coco sounds cute! Just looked it up since I am out of the loop with movies. We are trying to catch up on stuff we haven't seen. My guy just watched Dunkirk and loved it. Also rented I-Tonya from Redbox (Tonya Harding story) and it was really good! Allison Janey plays her Mom and totally nails it.

Rainy day here but it is warmer than yesterday. April showers bring spring flowers! Had a good cardio session last night at the gym. Tonight will be weights.

Off to fill up my big water cup and start the day! Have a nice one!

Well life served me up food poisoning it seems. Doing much better than I was in the middle of the night but have had only snatches of sleep all night between bouts.

Still kinda proud of myself. I emailed boss a couple of hours ago saying they would have to find someone for my shift. I didn’t try to tough it out or get all caught up in the fact manager (with new baby at home just back to work this week) night have to straighten staffing out today - because it might be a bear to do so. Oh. I do feel sorry for him, it would be much better if we could limp along on the minimum shoestring staff for a few more weeks, but it IS his job.

I’m going to be fine, something I was actually unsure of in the wee hours of the night, but weak, tired And actually, in some pain.

    ————————-
On a happier note how you all rock! Size 8’s, spring break, 5:2 on track! You folks rock!

I tried to share a great picture with y’all but app won’t let me since I changed password. :(.

Stay good, I’m back to bed with ice chips.

@ryenday FEEL BETTER!! Food poisoning is AWFUL! But look at the great fast you are getting in, right?
The stomach flu is actually what set me on 5:2. I had seen the documentary, and then a few weeks later, I got sick. But I felt so much better for a couple of days after, I thought there might be something to fasting and gave it a shot.

Got husband's computer off to the doctor. Got 1/3 of my school work done. Was 3 hours late to work. Tried a new strategy with a student and it worked. It is Paraprofessional Appreciation Week, I feel very appreciated. I am getting things done. Somehow, I will make it through.

@jknight001 We haven't seen that one, yet. I just realized I don't remember the last time I went to the theater for a non-animated/non-Star Wars movie! Momlife LOL

Have a great rest of the week, y'all! Happy Fasting!

@ryenday - So sorry to hear of the misadventure you had with food. I think only thing in life worse than food poisoning is the flu. :# Hope you are feeling better. And I too am proud of you for taking good care of yourself. You will be better a your job for it. And besides, you saved someone from possibly being barfed on. I think you should get some kind of bonus for that. o:)

@KateNkognito - You always make me smile. Funny story about how you started with 5:2. Applause to you for making it through so beautifully this week. When you finally surface for air, I highly recommend Coco as a movie for the family. Great story about the importance of family and heritage. And it was I interesting to learn about the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead. Unless, if you finally have some of your own spare time you don't want to spend it seeing anything animated. :)

I wonder how long we need to wait before we need to tell @orlcam's wife she needs to find someone else to take out the trash?

    Good morning everybody!

LOL I love the posts this week! Sounds like everybody is doing pretty well.

Feel better @ryenday! Food poisoning is no fun. Booo....

Not a whole lot happening here. Just realized that our Caribbean vacation is four weeks away from today. Yowser how time flies! Haven't really bought much as far as spring / summer clothing because I have been waiting for the darn scale to figure out its *kitten*. But, that's okay. Got stuff I can wear, even if it is a little big from last year.

Been dealing with a coworker who has a cold. For the last three days she has been coughing and sneezing and blowing her nose at her cube, which happens to be right next to mine. Today she called in sick. What the heck was she waiting for!? UGH, please don't get us all sick!

Good luck to anyone who is fasting today. Hope your day goes well. Speak to you all soon! -Meg

@Meghan509 - stay healthy! And you should get at least one new outfit in size 8 for your trip! You deserve it! (Don’t you want to shake some sense into the scale? obviously you are doing well, but it just doesn’t want to acknowledge.

@jknight001 hope this spring week is seeing lots of fun for you!

@KateNkognito what an unusual way to decide to start 5:2. I may have missed something but you took your husband’s computer to the doctor?

I’m doing better, thank you. I feel like crap but I don’t feel like absolute horror anymore. I’ll be going back to work today but it’s only a five hour shift so I should be managed just fine. Still having trouble posting a picture. Have an adorable one to show you all but I guess it will be after I figure out what’s up with this app. Hoping you all have a good day !

<gasping>...hey everyone...I've made it back...I was being held by a gang of cruel foodies who force fed me vegan hipster amuse bouches! I eventually escaped by convincing them that I am in full support of the repeal of all anti foie gras laws and that yes, I could actually taste the difference between Nepalese and Tibetan goat cheeses (after several bouts of aversion therapy.)

Happy to see everyone carrying on with their lives while I was ... <crying> ... excuse me, I need a moment...

... at least @jknight001 loves me. Thank you baby! ...call me.

    ----

Whew...what a ride. Four pounds and two t-bones later I feel grounded once again.

Aside from @ryenday 's food poisoning (my sympathies), it looks like everyone is fairing well. No true fasts for me yet this week. I really need one...today may be the day...nothing eaten since last night so far.

Good luck with the rest of your week everyone...talk at y'all soon.

Oh my goodness @ryenday I love that cute kitty pic! Look at all of them together. Awwww... <3 Thanks for sharing! Hope they are taking good care of you. Because they always know when we are sick!

Happy Friday everybody! Couple of snow showers happening today but no accumulation as it is around 50 degrees. Oh my my my Mother Nature is out of her mind lately! :p

Stupid scale does not budge for me, nooooope! Same exact weight as last week, down to the .6 at the end. Worked out five days this week at the gym doing cardio and weights. Sometimes I honestly just want to say why bother. Okay let me stop. Focus. Won't be spewing negative words here because that doesn't help anyone, including myself.

Yes! I did buy a few things for our vacation / warmer weather. Bought a dress in a size small and some t-shirts in small and they all fit well. Also bought a second bathing suit, a tankini type in a similar style as my other one. I tend to a wear bathing suit on the weekends during the summer when we are at the beach. So my suits get a fair amount of use. It is nice to have a second one, so one can be drying from the day before while the other one is in use. Of course I got it on sale too, so that helps justify! ;)

Have a nice one everybody. Check in again with you all soon. :)

Why bother? ...because you're turning yourself into one baaad *kitten* mamma jamma, and getting healthier to boot. You have to be feeling good...and looking good. Just forget the scale. We all say not to do it, but we still wind up letting it dictate whether we are successful or not; when there are so many other gauges that should be considered.

You may want to do measurements weekly, which can give you an idea of your body fat percentage. You will see both loss and growth and you most likely will get heavier, because muscle weighs more than fat; especially if you are weightlifting. Here's a link I found a while back when I was working on my TDEE calculator: gymgoal.com/dtool_fat.html

Hi everyone. Had an awesome birthday yesterday. Went to the beach. Great family time!

@ryenday Loved your pic! Wondering if there might be a flock of birds outside your door? :) Hope you are back to eating without seeing within a few hours what you ate in the toilet. :#

@orlcam "vegan hipster amuse bouches"??? Have you been binge watching Food Network again? Glad you are back, however, my biggest concern was for your dear, already overloaded with a too full plate of Mom Duty, wife having to now having to add taking out the trash to her very long to-do list. Or was that just transference on my part? :D

@Meghan509 - Glad to see you are buying clothes. Was already planning to encourage you to do so. This trip sounds too fantastic to get loaded down with ill-fitting casuals. Even if you have to buy second or borrow, you'll have a better time if you love what you are wearing. So sorry to hear the scale is being unkind. However, what you are doing now with exercise and food is what we all need to do to remain fit. Kind of like brushing your teeth. Not fun and glamorous but the alternative is so much worse. Keep up the good work.

    Have a great weekend all!

wow.... nice to see everyone's input here! love the kitties looking out the door...

Happy Birthday @jknight001 sounds like you had a lovely day!

Meghan, I agree with Orlcam.... forget that scale for a while, measurements are how you can gauge your progress... and also by the fact you're buying size small shirts...!! well, come on! You're doing very well! re-read Orlcams post over and over... muscle weighs more than fat! Take a look in the mirror when you have that new bathing suit on... I'm sure you'll look fantastic! hopefully you have a photo to compare yourself to last years bathing suit photo! Kepp on it... you are inspiring!

I've been busy here... the hubs is now really feeling a lot of pain in his knee now... the swelling is really coming down and he's more mobile, but the pain has increased. So I'm still doing everything here... apparently hockey is on 24/7!! BTW... cheers to our Sedin's

I've been eating well, just not logging due to time. I'm reading about Keto... doesn't someone here do keto?? Orlcam maybe? Well, just reading about it, but I think I like eating that way in general, except more veggies though.

    off to do some cleaning!
    cheers people

Quick update on my day.... for the last month I’ve been nibbling on the chipits in the cupboard, Easter mini eggs, wine... etc... it’s been a tad out of control, I must admit! Today I loaded up on the fat; avocado, eggs, bit of cheese (which I rarely have) but by the afternoon, which is witching hour for me, I felt full and had no cravings for anything... I had a taco salad for dinner with a bit more avo, and some tea afterwards and no cravings for alcohol..... could that be true, sticking to a higher fat diet controls sugar cravings?? Today wasn’t a fast day but it was a good day!

I was doing really well this week... and then Friday came... and there was lots of pizza... and snacks... *hangs head in shame, but has a smile*

@Meghan509 I once read an article about finding your "happy weight" based on your age, your exercise goals, and your overall self and body images. The thing that struck me most was that it said that even if you are not at a goal weight, you can still be happy with where you are, and to stop and think about why it is that you want to get to that particular number. Is it for health? Or is it just a goal that you set and are you just as healthy now as you would be at that weight?

    @orlcam You crack me up!

@mamainthekitchen You can't kill him now, you put too much time and money into him. Just a reminder! LOL

    @jknight001 Happy birthday!

@ryenday I love the kitties! And my husband's computer got sick. We had someone come make a house call and he took it to the hospital and now it is all better! LOL I was so busy this week, I literally googled "someone to come to my house to fix my computer". Random guy came to my husband's office, didn't kill me, and fixed the computer! Busy mom WIN!

Off to finish my last few assignments and make the house not a total disaster. And then I am going to take a NAP! Have a great weekend!!

    @jknight001 Awww...we missed it...happy birthday!

@KateNkognito thank you...I do what I can with the material I'm given. Never, never call a random person to fix your computer...these are the type of people who sell ice cream and entertain our children as clowns on the weekends. You need to throw that computer away...it is now a spying device...better yet, bring it out to the driveway and riverdance on it! ...true...I'm pretty sure I saw all of this in a documentary.

@ryenday it could be the kitties...kitties are evil. I hear they try to steal your breath when you sleep at night. Everything bad that is happening...I'm sure that they are some how directly responsible. Yes, I saw that on a documentary as well...I think Drew Barrymore was the narrator. That picture of them staring out of the house, controlling the minds of your neighbors in unison, it sends shivers down my spine!

@mamainthekitchen yes, I do keto...I learned about it in a documentary...I believe it was also narrated by Drew Barrymore. But, that's not important...you are correct, that is one of the premises behind keto; that the fat fills you up and lets you know when enough is enough...naturally (once you are carb-corrected). Carbs can have the opposite effect...causing you to get hungry again once you burn through them (and leaving you tired after meals). I finished a 40 hour fast yesterday evening and had another t-bone and some green onion sausage...it filled me up pretty quick; to where I was only able to eat roughly 70% of my calories (which is already set, on MFP, to severely restricted.) This seems to be par for the course after a fast. Which means I usually get a double affect for each fast day...I have usually less than 400 cals during my fast (no matter how long) then I get the calorie reduction naturally the next day. That usually works out to about a 50%-60% calorie reduction across a 2 or 3 day period (depending on the length of my fast.) It's the day after my "break fast" meal that usually gets me. I want to eat outside of my nightly window (usually less than 3 hours) which can sometimes mean I'm snacking throughout the day (thank goodness for fried pork skins). I noticed the last few times that I've added flax, chia, and/or hemp seed to my meals/smoothies that I get VERY full. I remember putting some in a taco salad once and I was struggling halfway through. I think I am going to try and come up with a small (4 to 6) ounce pleasant tasting (yeah right) smoothie that has less than 200 calories with lots of fat/fiber (a fat and fiber bomb) that should, if things go as planned, stop hunger pangs in their tracks. I also struggle with getting my fat grams up...I usually wind up having way to much protein vs fat and it should be the opposite. This (not getting enough fat) makes almost every "rookie mistake" keto list. Plus I've noticed that on weeks that I do eat more fat, I lose more weight. Yep, hard to wrap your mind around...eat more fat, lose more weight. It's so important that the site KetoConnect.net (run by a charismatic couple in their late 20s who basically record video and blog about every recipe they try and their lives as it pertains to keto) has done multiple videos on how to get your fat count up.

I've been successful enough with keto that my wife is looking to join me once she gets back from Europe (coming home this summer after 5 years). This is no small feat...we've been trying to sync up our diets/lifestyles for years; and when I say years, well, the last time we ate the same way (intentionally) was before she became pregnant with our 1st...~20 years ago with "Sugar-Busters"...and we actually did great with it. But I think with the info I've sent her, and me describing some of the great stuff I've eaten, plus the FACT (yes, I'm truly convinced) that I've healed myself of at least 6 diabetes related afflictions (that I know of) ...she seems ready to be indoctrinated. Also, she's probably at the heaviest (sorry my love) she's ever been (as was I ~4 months ago)...so she's frustrated and ready to get back home and put her heart into it. She sees the value in it, again, this was not easy to accomplish as she's an Occupational Health Practitioner and has a tendency to fervently debate my actions (as all passionate couples do I'm sure); with her level of doubt always seemingly rising to match my level of enthusiasm. Hmmm...why is that ladies? ...when I can count at least 12 dozen times (yes, a gross...don't question me) over the years where she's brought home some nugget of nonsense she picked up at the office water-cooler and tried to lay it off on me as the sagest of advice? Damn, I miss this woman!

OK, that took longer than expected...don't get me talking about my favorite subject...me!

    Have a good day everyone,
    Rus
