Potatoes - Yay or Nay?

I see a lot of conflicting things about regular potatoes when it comes to Paleo.

On one hand, the majority of Paleo says you should avoid them. On the other, I get a Paleo magazine (called Paleo), that includes recipes with regular potatoes, and I see several sites and posts from people that include them in recipes.

I understand that there are varying degrees of rules that people follow--and it is a personal decision, but what are your thoughts on this?

I'm not advocating for one way or the other, just wondering about it.

@madwells1 I think I might have the occasional, small potato, but factor it into my daily carbs. I know cooled potatoes have resistant starch, so are good for your gut. I had a small new potato with my roast for Easter, and I would probably do the same for Christmas but it wouldn't be a regular thing for me.

I eat potatoes occasionally. I think they’re a great carb source for my kids so I make them weekly. I might have half a potato couple of times a month myself. I’m also a French fry thief unless I’m totally on-track. The Whole30 crew amended their program to include white potatoes. I forget the reasoning. But I’m glad for it.

I have to admit to being a french fry thief once in awhile myself :p

I avoid them due to insulin spikes. I think it also depends on your personal goals. If it's to lose weight via Paleo or Primal, then I would omit them. If not, and it doesn't cause any tummy issues, then occasionally wouldn't be harmful.
