We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for May are:

Monday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)
Tuesday - Calvin2008Brian (Brian)
Wednesday - <your name here>
Thursday - <your name here too>
Friday - Al_Howard (Al)

Topic: Time-Restricted Eating

Have you heard of Time-Restricted Eating?
Tried it?
Considered it?
Maybe rejected the concept as we tend to do with most "weight loss fads of the moment"?

A coworker is all over the time-restriction idea, and he's had success with whatever it is he's doing. He ties the time-restrictions to some broader concepts of paleo eating, including virtually no carbs except from fruit. His plan is too severe for me, but I do think there's benefit in eating within a defined window of time.

Which GoaDie used to post the "kitchen closed" notice back in the day? He had the right idea!

Of course, along with the rest of the entire WL world I once defined my problem as eating at night.

But I’ve never really been able to close the kitchen. It’s too anxiety provoking for me. Kitchen closes when my head hits the pillow.

What I can do though is delay. I get an 8pm snack and a 10pm snack. I’m rarely up after 10:30. A lot of nights I skip the 10pm snack. But having it available helps me relax.

I think it is useful if you are eating beyond budget late at night instead of just eating planned meals and portioned snacks. It was interesting to me that one of the highly quoted and touted studies from Spain about how eating late was a problem was totally misleading. when you looked at the actual study they found no difference in weight loss or maintenance related to late night eating. what they found was that folks who ate a later LUNCH seemed to have more problems. They then rationalized that maybe this was because many folks eat more for lunch.
I say do whatever works for you.
