Insulin dependent here.

I've been doing really well with my diet, cardio and strength training lately and my BG have been within a normal range for nearly a month! I was on track for the best HbA1c ever. Then last night happened...

I couldnt do my regular Thursday morning gym routine because I slept through my alarm and had to get to work so I packed my gym bag and vowed to go after work. I took a late breakfast so I could do a late lunch and be fuelled for the gym. I started training (30 mins bike, vigourous) at 8.1mmol and by the end was 4.4. I had two jelly babies before doing strength training for an hour. I got home, had dinner around 8pm then took my basal at 9pm and went to bed at 10pm with a BG of 6.9.

I woke up during the night on three different occassions.. Hypo 1 was a reading of 3.2 so I had fast acting and slow release carbs, waited up 30 mins and kept checking. it went up to 6.5+. Hypo 2 was a couple of hours later at 2.7! I did the same again but got it up to 8mmol before going back to sleep. Hypo 3 was 3.6 and I just stayed awake after that.

I had to call in work today and request I can work from home because im totally wiped out. My BG keeps dropping so i'm projected to go over my calorie limit to keep it stable. Im going to reduce my basal insulin by 5 units tonight!

TLDR: Went to the gym outside of my normal routine and now my BG is all over the place :(

Not insulin dependent but I notice my bg is low for about 24 hrs after heavy lifting. HIIT Bike brings it down quickly but it doesn't stay down long term, the way it does after strength training. Hope you're feeling better now!

    Ugh. Yikes. Sounds exhausting. :(

Are you T2D? It sounds like you may need to reduce insulin, as you said. Maybe you've made enough improvements to your health that less insulin is a now needed?

Regardless, I wish you luck with it. I hope you got it straightened out.
