We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don’t) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. “ It’s a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for June are:
Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - calvin2008brian (Brian)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday -88olds (George)
Friday - Al_Howard
Today's Topic: Zero point foods, and how do you use them?
Obviously, WW centric, but germane to the “how can I lose weight” subject.

TOL and I tend to use them as our meal base. Going to have chicken, so what sides? Going to have fish, what sides? But if we’re going to have pork or beef, can we lose the starch (potato, rice, pasta noodles)? We both use Zero point snacks, be it a piece of fruit, or some FF Greek yogurt. Never had a "Zero Point Day".0

I use the zero points much like you've described, Al. Pretty much every meal has some zero-point component, and when I want to I can easily build a zero-point meal. I've also not had a zero point day, but I've had quite a few zero point meals.
I've also learned that most non-zero point proteins are pretty point friendly (unless breaded/fried). So for example last night I cooked a pork tenderloin on the grill. A 4 oz serving was only 2 points.
I like Freestyle. I think it's easier than calorie counting and it's working for me where nothing else I've done has worked well for years.1 -
I learned quickly not to treat Zero Point foods as free foods. I try to use zero point proteins. But no matter, portion control is still critical to me. Just because it is zero points is not a license to overindulge.
