Keto food adversions

Hello all, I wanted to jump on the low carb bandwagon again but the thought of meat and eggs (I did keto for a year a couple of years back, tried a couple of times since and the food is killing me) makes me gag. Any suggestions?

Hello @cierrahc I'm allergic to milk and have an aversion to meat, but trained myself to eat poultry and fish. I find soy and vegetable proteins don't give me the same wellness feeling as animal products.
My primary protein is turkey jerky, fish and ground poultry which don't sound good for you). But I also eat eggs (especially Optimum rich-chocolate egg protein power) and non-dairy products (mostly nut but sometimes soy-based). I like almond milk, Dayia non-dairy cheese, non-dairy yogurts, cream cheese, etc. And I snack on peanuts all the time, as well as hummus.
Good luck. It's odd when our minds tell us to leave animals alone and our bodies are carnivore.2 -
If you look in the stickies, there is a Launch Pad stickie that has a list of types of low carb programs. In that, there are a bunch of links for vegetarian and vegan keto or low carb guidance. You might find info in there to help you with your food preferences.
TBH, meat and eggs are my least favourite foods, but that also makes them great for weight loss and maintenance! If I want to gain weight, I'll eat the refined carbs. No problem with weight gain when my meals are animal based. LOL2 -
I enjoy meat and eggs but any WOE can become boring if we eat the same foods daily. Lately I have found new foods/recipes to vary my diet. One of my favourites is Zeroodle which is a soybean pasta with 21 grams of protein and 5 net carbs. It is really good.
I can get tired of salads as well so lately I have been eating warm low carb veggies tossed with a can of tuna and a spicey harissa oil and vinegar dressing (for those you are unfamiliar, harissa is mix of spices often used in middle eastern and North African cooking).
I also eat cloud bread with hamburgers, fish and seafood with a lemon cream sauce and Asian flavoured soups (example: homemade Korean Beef soup)
I guess my point is that if you would like to eat low carb I think it is more enjoyable if you experiment with different types of proteins and new to you flavour combinations. It helps if you don’t mind cooking from scratch.
Good luck and I hope that you find what works for you.1 -
Why keto if the food choices cause you to gag? What is your purpose for eating keto?0

I'd never heard of cloud bread before. What a great idea. Found lots of recipes on line. Here is a link to the one shown below: https://www.spendwithpennies.com/cloud-bread/

@cierrahc after being low carb for almost 4 years I have never eaten any foods that would make me gag.
90 days after keeping my daily carb count down to 50 grams my taste buds actually changed I guess since my taste for low carb foods really shot up.2 -

Google "vegan KETO food plans". I have a friend who is vegan and she has been very successful, weight comes off slower, but it comes off.1 -
Have you tried a more moderate carb approach? I feel great physically eating low carb. I didn't feel any better eating keto level carbs (2 years). I know that on the now very rare occasion I have a super sweet carb laden day - an oops day- I feel like crap the next day.
I guess I'm asking if you have to eat keto to feel good or might low carb work as well.2
